Since Saturday, I’ve had a bit of a stiff neck, which doesn’t seem to be getting any better so far.
May have tried a bit too hard at the Gym Friday night, or may have been something else, not sure.

It’s hard to turn me head, especially to the right, with a dull aching pain.
At points there’s a dull pain down the left top of my back.

On Saturday night, after doing various stuff in the day time (including riding a bike around town), it got quite bad, so I took a pain killer and had a couple of strong spliffs.
Felt better and was ok on Sunday, was doing various stuff to the bike, house, garage etc. Nothing too strenuous however.

This morning (Monday) it feels just as bad if not worse.

I have still got slightly limited movement in my left shoulder from a broken bone I got off roading before Christmass. Apparantly if I hold my hand in a specific way while lifting my arm up, a tendon is getting caught on the bit of bone sticking out. Also have problems if I move my arm suddenly.
Not sure if it’s related, but possible that my left arm being weaker due to less use meant that I did some damage trying a bit too hard.

So, any ideas on what I’ve done and anything I can do to help sort it?

Normally, would just give it a bit more time to sort it’s self out, but I’ve got a practice at Lydden and probably my first races of the Season at the weekend.

If there is an existing injury in the area that is hurting, go to the doctors. You could have aggrivated the existing injury, or given yourself an entirely different new one!

It's very different to the existing injury which is a relatively sharper pain when moving in certain ways.
While this is a much duller ache - initially I thought I'd just slept with my head at an odd angle or something.

Haven't really got the chance to see a GP before the racing, though will be seeing a fracture clinic doctor about the shoulder injury.

Sounds like you may have pulled a muscle in your neck.

You'll laugh, but for muscle aches and pains, I use some stuff called uddermint. It is a linament that farmers rub on their cows udders when they are sore. It's about 40% pure peppermint oil so you reek like a polo factory after you've rubbed it in but it does work wonders.

I was using it on my shin and foot after I dropped my bike on it and the relief was instant.

You can buy it in any agriucultural suppliers. I recommend getting someone else to rub it in for you Wink . Oh, and make sure you wash your hands after use, peppermint oil is unplesant if it gets on sensitive areas or in your eyes.
