https://www.ukbike.com/reviews/bikes/600ss.html

rated fairly highly as a "first big bike"...the stock power is only 53Bhp, so restricting it shouldn't be too bad...weighs about 173Kg...etc...

Hi

Meant to be nice enough bikes. Servicing might be a bit more than you expect though as the valves need doing regularly and it has cam belts that need changing every couple of years. I suspect real power is around 40hp at the rear wheel, so probably not much restricting needed. Brakes wont be great, but you can get the other caliper and disk from a 900 and try fitting them (looks like it should fit easy enough).

However, dont expect a ball of fire, performance wise

All the best

Yeah I heard about the 400ss, I think it was in TWO magazine. They said it was a pile of shite though, I can't remember why. I think it was too heavy or something.

yeh the 400ss was a sleeved down 600 because in japan its a slut and a half getting a license over 400cc.
a 33bhp 600ss or monster should be nice, particularly the monster becuase of its low gearing and grunt, but lack of top end, so you wont suffer so much from a 33bhp restrictor.
remember also that they have the standard italian electrics and will be particularly shite thru winter.
even my NS125 had dodgy electrics - it was made in honda italy.

Hi

Think the 400SS way have actually used the old 350cc Ducati V twin, bored out a bit.

Italy used to have some odd VAT rules. Luxury goods were taxed at 38% while normal VAT was 19%. Bikes over 350cc and cars over 2L were classed as luxury goods and so got hammered.

The 400 was officially imported, but is not really any lighter than the larger engined bikes, but alot less powerful.

All the best

Then its decided Smile If I come across a good one when I have some money, I'll get a Ducati 600ss

(Just need to sell my scooter and pass my test)

(If anyone wants the best scooter ever made for less than half the original price, drop me a msg)

1100 pounds isnt bad... but then again it isnt good. It would be ok if the restrictor were to drop out tho Laughing

Im sure your neighbour could have got the insurrance cheaper if he shopped around. That seems a bit pricey to me for a 125cc.

Hi

£1300 is a hell of a lot for insurance. Suspect you can do rather better than £1100 for the 600SS, but then Telford is a pricey place for insurance (apparently the first place they caught someone using a scanner to record alarm remote control key codes).

Not sure how much you expect to pay, but have a good hunt round. A friend bought a 600 Monster as a first bike about 18 months ago. D&K wanted £4200 for a new import and the 2nd hand ones were all advertised for £3k+ at the time. She paid £4000 for a new official import from an official dealer

All the best

Hi

Think they are the same size as the 750 and 900 of about the same age. Almost certain to be one of those around. Size wise they feel just about perfect to me

All the best

Top speed of 110MPH

https://www.bikebase.co.uk/static2/Ducati_600SS.html

It says there. But i bet its good for a bit more than that as these estimates seem to be a little low.
