I've got a Vodafone contract, it's due to end next month and I've decided not to renew, I don't use the phone enough to warrant £30 a month.. so I want to go pay as you talk.

Now, firstly.. how do I go about cancelling my contract, do I just need to send them a letter now stating that I do not wish to renew the contract? I spoke to them and to be honest they weren't very helpful, but did say I had to give 30 days notice.. It's a bit late for 30 days, but surely they can't just start a new contract without my permission? seeing as the 18 month contract is coming to an end, they can't just renew without me wanting to? So do I just need to write a letter to vodafone with my details, saying that I do not wish to continue the contract ones its ended?

Secondly.

I'm going to want a pay as you talk sim now. Who's doing the best deals? I mostly send texts so X amount of free texts are a must really. I looked at vodafones PAYT but it sucks to be honest Rolling Eyes

So, whos with who and whos best Mr. Green

O2 is best for PAYG, imo.
200 free texts for each £10 top up, IIRC.

I have a few brand new O2 sim packs knocking around too, if you want one.

Hi, does the credit and free texts roll over each month? I.e if I put £10 on it I get £10 credit and 200 free texts for however long I want? i.e if I leave it for a year it'll still be on there? cos I hate those that make you top up each month or shit like that.. sometimes I will go for weeks without even using my phone so don't want to top up monthly when I don't need to.

Cheers.

I chose to stick with O2 just a month ago. I don't use the phone that often but when I do, I hammer it. For instance, I receive calls diverted from my office but hardly make any calls, unless I'm away shooting a wedding, I may call my wife while the weddding party are having their meal. The first three minutes cost 75p but the remaining minutes cost only 1p per minute at the weekend, or 2p per minute in the week.
I have used about £13 worth of credit this past month.

With O2 I get 300 texts (Standard) everytime I top up £10 the texts only last 1 month but the credit stays forever, I also get 10% back every 3 months depending on how much I top up which is nice too, also free calls for a certain amount of time from my chosen postcode too, all on PAYG which is very good for me.

If you can be bothered with the hassle, it's worth looking at places offering 12 months contract with 12 months free.

The way it works is you have to keep your bills and claim the money back. However, from what I've seen it is legitimate.
They have tight rules and you do have to send the bills off in a short space of time - my plan will be to set outlook reminders and stick all bills for the phone in a specific envelope.

They make money from the fact a lot of people will probably forget about their conditions.

Of course you also get a (not very good) new free phone, which could be sold on ebay etc.

For example:

Think I'd rather stick to the pay as you talk as knowing me I'll forget to send the bills off etc and end up paying loads out.

Is it contract phones that are unlocked or pay t ones? i.e can I stick any sim in my contract phone?

Those genie sim-cards do the £10 - 500 text packages dont they? or is it less texts than that?

Im sure your contract contact you offering you a renewal and phone update, And you can say no then. Dont quote me on that though.

Im On T-Mobile. I know its Contract, so no good to you. But I pay £35 a month and get £180s worth of credit to use weather it be texts or calls.
Works out at 1800 texts/mins. Or a mixture of both.
Love it. Thumbs Up
Got a free PSP too.

Both types of phone will probably be locked. However, you can by clips on ebay that should do it for under £10, or a similar price to pay someone else to do it from a market independent phone shop.

You could read the subtext below each section Wink:

This is a question and is it's not bike related so goes in here.
Random banter is for general 'banter' that doesn't fall into anything else - presumably the idea of this section being that more 'useful' threads are kept together.

Hi,

Yes, you will get 200 free texts that will last until they run out, basically. I hardly use mine either.
Like I said, I have a bunch of unused O2 simpacks that I got for free a while ago, so if you want one then send a PM my way. Smile

I've just cancelled my Vodafone contract cos I basically don't need it anymore. Call Vodafone again and explain that you want to cancel your contract; they'll do all they can to talk you out of it - and as a result you may get a really good contract deal out of it, so be open minded! Vodafone do offer an option to convert your existing sim card and number from contract to PAYG, as this is an option that they offered me, so go for it and see what they offer. Thumbs Up

I wish I went to PAYG on 02 - dont think the text's roll over.
Seems a far better option for me.
Or Voda do £5 a week for free weekend calls???
