hi all,
As i was riding home today, the bike started to drop out of gear and into a false neutral under acceleration?? The gearbox oil has been leaking slighty over the past few days due to a worn gasket and I have checked the dipstick but it seems to only have a minimal amount left in the bottom. So is my gearbox gone or is it the lack of oil that is causing this? Thankyou in advance for any advice.

Update: just went out to pick up some gearbox oil off my mate. As I was riding the bike down, a car braked heavily to avoid a dog. I slammed on and the back wheel locked causing me to slide into the back of this car. Anyways I was fine and as there was only a tire mark on the back of the car we both agreed to leave it. As i was getting ready to leave i noticed oil was leaking out of the bike and it was all over the back wheel. Its strange because its leaking out around the gear lever?? And to top off this fine day the bike will now not find neautal. I suppose the gearbox is Funked?

Your first job is to replace the leaking oil seal. Glad your near miss was exactly that, near. Give your rear a damn good scrub as well.

Thumbs Up

wel, i just drained the gearbox oil and i found lots of little bits of rubber? I presume that a seal has gone in the gearbox? would this cause it to be jumping out of gear? thanks

Well I have removed the Gearbox cover and had a poke around. I think the gear selector fork is worn. Would this cause the bike to jump out of gear?? thanks.
