My job at the moment is paying the bills (just) but not exactly interesting or providing any prospects or training.

A job came up I really wanted. I passed the interviews and got to an assessment day. Just be told they liked me but I "don't have enough experience"

Gutted I'm stuck in this dead end. I so don't want to be here today. Crying or Very sad

Oh well, I suppose that means I'll still be able to spend my days on BCF

Al - I know that feeling, I was looking for a job for 5 months. I can't remember the amount of times I got the "We liked you, but you're too inexperienced" letter/phonecall and the amount of times I got nothing at all was gutting.

Recently got a job, it's 8 hours a week less than I wanted, and about 30p an hour less an hour than I wanted, but it's a job!

Chin up, keep looking and something will turn up.

Karma

(P.S. I also found agencies utterly hopeless, it's easier and more efficient to look for yourself IMO)

Don't worry plenty more out there,

my typical hit rate starting out was 5% , with some experience it went up to 15% , now floats at 20% ,

this is for interviews only, offers are like 25% of interviews I go for!.

You could try getting in touch with them again and ask if they would be willing to take you on as a trainee for less money?

you need to go harrass such agencies on an hourly basis , they won't like it and will find something for you , you hand in your CV , even if you are a fairly good candiadate it'll go in a draw until months later (one contacted me about a CV I left 2 years ago)..

I told an agency I wanted either retail or office junior work, and i could only travel to Kings Lynn (bus!) earning up to £15k (I'm realistic!) So what did they sent me details of??

Eastern Region Administration Manager for a marketing company, driving all over East Anglia and earning £34k....

They don't listen, and they don't care, they just need the numbers on their books!

id confirm this, and i know as i work for an agency.

The agency's job is to find client companies, and find workers for their clients.

They are not about finding you a good job, just about seeing if you are of use for the stuff they have.

Harassing them hourly will just make you seem like a pain. Every day may be ok, and may get your name noticed, but then it might not.

dude that sucks, i was in a similar situation when i left uni, ended up stuck in a dead end job and no one would take me on for what i wanted to do as i had no experience. agencies were rubbish but ended up stumbling across my current job just as i was about to give up looking. think it really is a case of "being in the right place, right time" but the key is to keep trying, so you put yourself in the right place at the right time. someone will eventually recognise youve got what it takes.

im leaving my job in the near future to relocate to aberdeenshire, and want to do something totally different to what i do now, we are advertising for my replacement here and the advert specifically states that they must be excel, word and sage line 50 proficient, so far weve been inundated by eastern european applicants who have never heard of sage and some of them can barely string a sentence in english, I think on my updated cv i am going to say pitbull office manager with cat herding skills and see what kind of jobs i get offered but as was written above ive dipped my toes in the water with my present cv and have been sent details of jobs traveling abroad on silly money doing things ive never heard of and thats through agencies, i was in recruitment once but its a sales job at the end of the day and your just putting bums in seats to make the company money
