...Last week 19-yearold Allan Graham was banned from driving by magistrates in Guisborough, North Yorkshire, after he was pulled over 38 hours after he threw away his L-plates. He was nearly twice the legal drinkdrive limit and was banned for a year. A friend showed the newspaper coverage of the case to Richards, who said: “I have beaten him by 10 hours.”

Like that's the sort of record you want to beat Confused

3 pints @ lunchtime Rolling Eyes

Hope he's able to get wiser if he gets older.

Still, on a positive note at least it sounds like there's a Bandit 400 going to be on sale cheap Thumbs Up

how many of you actually drink at all before/while driving/riding?

I don't and wondered how many didn't see a quick pint as an issue..

I tend not to really drink at all.

What are the rules on a pillon having a few? Do they have a limit on what they can drink and be on the back of the bike?

Personally I don't like to drink if I'm driving/riding.
However, that said I have been know to have a pint, over about and hour, with maybe another half hour before leaving (FWIW this done in the company serving police BTW).

So, no, I don't see a quick pint as an issue. Three however, is taking the piss. Especially at lunch, which by definition is a short period of time.

I'll have one pint if I'm riding,, but I'll make sure I eat too.
Does make me a bit cocky though.

If I'd had three pints at lunchtime, I wouldn't think twice about driving at 5pm.

I've been breathalysed after having a couple of pints, no worries. But then I'm a big lad so there's plenty of body mass to dilute it in.

Personally my reaction time is shite if I have had anything alcoholic to drink, so if I've got the bike I don't.

Pillion has the same drink drive limit as a driver because a pillion has a degree of control over a bike. It became law around about fifteen years ago.

If memory serves if the pillion is over the drink drive limit then not only can the pillion be prosecuted for drink driving but the bikes rider can be as well. Even if the rider is stone cold sober.

I think attitudes have changed, well mine has and though I've never thought of myself as a drink/driver I suppose by today's standards I have been.

I used to go out on a Sunday night have 2 - 2.5 pints over 3 hours and drive home, I wouldn't do it now.

I have been known to have a pint Friday lunch time, sleep it off back at the office and drive home at 5pm, I think I'd still do it but not if I was riding. Paradox? Maybe.

But these days if I know I'm driving/riding later that day/evening then I'll give it a miss, I don't want to risk causing an accident. And even if you're just involved rather than causing one, I think if you've alcohol in your system you'll get shafted by the bill.

Finally my wife's diabetic and so limits her alcohol consumption, so if we have a night out she'll have a glass of wine over the evening and drive home, I'm happy and confident to flake out in the passenger footwell while she drives.

Not that it's a major problem cos I don't drink very often anyway.

I hardly ever drink much anyway, but I did once and I rode like a complete twat, really aggressive and lucky tbh that I didn't hurt myself or others.

Never again. Thumbs Up

I got wankered on my 20th, by that i meant having 6 pints and 5 double shots of sambuca/Vodka/Aftershock. (for an asian, that's quite a lot). I stopped drinking at 2 and rode out at 1 the next day. Wouldn't want to ride hung over EVER again, not sure if i was over the limit or not, but chances are i probably were as it was only 12 hours difference since my last drink and 16 hours since my first. I reckon don't drink and drive is the rule, and don't get uber trashed before a fast ride out! Also, never ride when stoned, not that i'd admit to doing such a thing - traffic lights become giggling discos, it's just not worth the risk of your license and your life.

If I'm going to be at the pub for a while, I'll sometimes have a pint first, then follow it up over the next couple of hours with a few cokes, wouldn't have anything more though. Also always check with anyone I'm giving a lift to whether they ob

Would love to claim I'd never driven on more, but I've made a couple of bad decisions, nothing overly dangerous, but silly things, like when my car was parked at the bottom of a huge hill on the walk home, and my mate's house was at the top. Took the lazy option, no excuse for it, but at no stage during the night had I been particularly drunk, and the 2 hour walk up to that point seemed to have sobered me completely. Not a particularly clever thing to do, felt very stupid in the morning, but nobody's perfect.
