I want to report a woman who was on her laptop whilst driving this morning. Reason being as I was filtering her lack of concentration caused her car to drift into my direction as I was filtering. As I stopped, I said what the hell are you doing and she looked sheepishly and I said "I am going to report you". She then tried to follow me and may 'counter report' me for some trumped up sh*t! Rolling Eyes Rather than phone my friends at the Met (I am actually seeing a Detective Constable tomorrow as I have to give a statement as they've found my Land Rover Discovery - in a crate bound for Lagos!), I want to do it online - but the the met police site says you can report 'crime' - which this isn't!! Any ideas?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Oh my god!

I would have called the police there and then. Sorry I can't offer any useful advice.

Would this not be classed as a 'crime' or is a traffic offence in a different category?

But to be honest I totally agree with Annabella, I’d have called them straight away. or right now. I take it you've got a note of her number plate?

What I have done is hung on for 15 minutes and spoke to a police operator. She was absolutely staggered! I gave the registration number, description of the driver and she said she'd 'circulate' the report...I imagine that's a bit like those bulletins on MySpace! You're aware of them but don't read them. Anyway I feel better now!

To be honest if I was to stop and report every driver on the North Circular Road in London who was driving erratically as a result of using their phone, putting make-up on, reading a newspaper etc., etc., by the time I'd got to work it would be time to go home again! Rolling Eyes

Useful link. However, problem with it is...
Quote:
... Click the crime name for more information.

* Theft
* Criminal damage / vandalism
* Theft from a motor vehicle
* Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents

Do not report Road Traffic Accidents or Collisions on this site
Do not report lost property on this site ...
So from that list you cannot report traffic offences. I guess that's (a) maybe to stop people just being vindictive and/or (b) not getting into he said/she said no-win arguements and/or (c) they don't give a toss about traffic offences not witnessd by the police (you decide which Rolling Eyes)

the police deal with two types of crime, notifiable and non notifiable. Notifiable is dealt with by the national crime recording standards and non notifiable by the national standard for incident recording.

road traffic offences (except one or two) are non notifiable, therefore no crime report needs to be filled out, however some forces have different policies on the way they operate.

Speak to the dc, see what he says, but its probably not in his remit and is a road policing units worry.

They wont have enough evidence to do anything but may be able to send a nice letter explaining tat she ought to be careful.

Is this so surprising? I see this all the time, the worse ones are the ones who do this and then decide to kill you to prevent any potential reporting ,

side question ,

if somebody is chasing you , but no impact occurs and they crash from chasing you , where is the liability and onus on stopping? ,

a Rover had a go at me yesterday , he sharply swerved to one side to block me , I gunned the gas and squeezed past , (there was a traffic island on my right) he may have gone into it.
