I believe the official UK bike is far easier to derestrict therefor making a better long term investment.

But you do have to run it in, the insurance is higher and you lose £1000 on it as soon as you leave the showroom.
With a second hand bike the depreciation has already hit and the insurance is lower cuz it would cost less to replace in the event of theft.

zak if your battery wont hold any charge it probably just needs some distilled water, if your still at school nick some from the chemistry dept, otherwise get some from halfords.

Hey Zak...do you know if the battery in your NSR is UK spec? (i.e. does it (not) have any Japanese writing on it?)

...changing it for a UK battery should eliminate most battery-based problems...

...how much bike batteries cost anyway?

(back to the original topic question Razz )

ask yourself: is the extra 10-15mph worth the extra £650?

I must sympathise with you mate...most of the guys here are telling you buy 2nd hand, but I personally know how hard it is to accept that, especially if it's your first bike, and (most importantly, I think) if you can afford it...

...but there should be loads of 2nd hand NSRs for sale now, and not all of them have been thrashed...

i only recommend you buy second hand cos ive bought new bikes and i know how much i hated watching my money disapear for no reason

so let some other mug buy it and sell it a year later, then you jump in get a next to new bike and far less of the sting

it's a uk battery i bought it about a month ago to replace the old one cost me 12 quid from my local bike shop.

and i have a bottle of distilled water next to my bike in the garage for just that very thing but doesnt make a difference.

i think it might be the altenator?
