Evening.

In October i will be 17 so i can then move to a 125, so i will be getting a 125 in october. Now i have my eyes on a few bikes and they are a Honda CBR125 & a Aprilia RS125, a Cagiva Mito 125 and not forgetting a Honda NSR 125 . I am wondering in your own opiniones which you think is the better bike, for.....

* Something which is Reliable
* Can Have Alot Of Fun With
* Can Handle Lots Of Miles
* Looks Good
* Thats Quick For A 125
* * And Small Bits.... E.x.p..... Sounds better, has the better clocks and just small bits like that.

I have always been aprilia, aprilia through and out so moving to a differant kind of bike will seem strange at first. I have never done much research on any of the bikes above so coul do with a help in hand.... the main bikes which i have my eyes glued on to at the moment is the Honda NSR 125 & Cagiva Mito 125

CG125 - does 3 out of 6 things on your list exceptionally well... and the remaining 3 all depend on you.

Thought about getting your full licence instead?

Aprilia RS 125 or Honda NSR 125 will do all of the things you've listed above.

Both are as reliable as any 4 stroke 125 aslong as you look after them and shower them with quality two stroke.

So thats my suggestion.

none of them fit your description , its a trade off , you go for reliability you lose speed/acceleration , you go for reliability you lose speed and accleration. you go for speed and acceleration you lose reliability.

a good one is the RS125 , bastards down at Torpoint used to ride them in a pack of 4 , they were devilishly quick and hard to catch. On anything 4 stroke, however two of them used smoked real badly and looked like they were on fire from behind,

CBR125 is OK , and I really do mean OK , if you know how to ride it you'll keep up in twisty sections ...just but it gets even slightly straight and you'll be wasted but vs other 4T 125s it'll smoke them ,

vs 2 smoke 125s you'll be wasted easy.

check out your OPFOR and see what'll be appropriate. Trev who rides a 636 and soon a ZX10R , requires tons of torque to whup , thus a bigV2 or V4 is what I fancy.

thing is if you've got £2000 to buy one do what Phantomtek did and get your full licence and ride restricted, since £2000 less say £500 the cost of your tests and lessons (remember test gets harder in 2008) = £1500 = much more bike vs money,

£1500 buys a '97 ZX6R which is old but still a beast.

off road section , ie a big car park type arrangement where you have to go through obsticles, some sort of object in the road swerve addition.

a higher speed emrg stop ,

and all sorts , lots of regional normal test centres will be closed.

Better get the test done this year then.
When do the new restriction guidelines come into force? (Two more years of restriction, iirc?)

You will want the RS125 or the MITO because of its looks/performance, but if you can just take a step back and look at the bigger picture, whichever 125 you buy, be it sooper dooper RS125 or a lowly CG125, you WILL be bored of the power in a years time and will want an upgrade, If you are a rich boy get whatever you want, if not, get whatever you can cheapest, do your test, and then laugh in a years time when you have saved up enough for a 400/500 or 600 that will piss over your mates 2t 125's Smile

NSR would likely be the best bet there, it would own the ped bois and dont they do an indicated 100? or should that be a genuine 158mph with the new powerband fitted Razz

kmx,kdx,dtr,tsr....... in fact any trail bike
any of those would be better than a road bike

reasons:
much better visibility in traffic than a road bike (due to height) see and be seen etc.
the ability to go off-road (kerbs, grass verges, etc are not even an obstacle)
no fairings to ruin when dropped (you probably will!) machine is designed to be dropped
panels £20 a throw, add a 0 for some road bikes
they all look better dirty
derestricted you're not holding up traffic out of town
restricted they'll last forever (designed to do double the hp)
more street cred than a cg

Yep, i can second that about being bored.

I ride a 4t 125, its slow acceleration, slow top speed..only good thing about my bike is that its comfy and does a lot of mpg.

I got my bike in july (1st july at about 11:30am to be precise) last year and i have clocled up more than 13,000 miles but over that period of time it just seems to get slower and slower. I have still got 1 year (come this july) left on my finance and i can't wait to get rid of it (hopefully this june/july) and go for a 500/600.

Oh yeah...don't buy a 125 brand new...i low sided mine 2 weeks after i got it...forget time off work for injury, i needed time off work to grieve (Sp:P)...felt like i had lost someone close!!! It really is that gutting. Then came off again in october (not my fault but i couldn't claim)...so someone claimed against me and insurance is going to be a killer for a bigger bike, but thats life.

Correction £1300 buys you a 97 ZX6R Very Happy and they are silly fast and good for an indicated 160mph! (and i should know Rolling Eyes )

It depends on where you live, what your circumstances are, and if you CAN afford the insurance. Fair enough if you've passed your test, but when i used to live in london, there was no WAY in hell insurers will touch a 17 year old on an SV650 for less than £1100 TPFT, and even an RS125 for £890!

If you are intent on getting a 125, sod it, do what you want to do and live the 2 stroke dream; get the RS125, it'll be a cult bike and will be sorely missed after 2 strokes will inevitably be outlawed. I heard some talk of the next RS125 being a 4 stroke Shocked

Having said that, the progression in biking is what makes it an adventure, rather than a lust for speed.

My biking life went like this

NRG 50 -> XR125 -> ZXR250 -> ZX6R

If i missed the 125 or 250 stage (or any small sportsbike), i probably won't appreciate them as much when you get onto say a 600 sports that's rate silly fast like mine.

I can also suggest not to get a new 125. Your wallet and soul will suffer as such - my dad was a n00b and insisted i get a new XR125 despite knowing i'll be selling it within a year. I passed my test on it, and it was a fun bike to learn on, but leaves you wanting for more. But in my opinion, you can't have a thorough biking experience unless you've gone through the stages.

Conclusion - get that fucking stroker, RS125, no questions asked. It's like the 98 R1 of the 125 world. It was so good that 18Priller bought two! Sure you'll be pissed off when it's off the road for repairs, but you'll look back in years to come thinking "that WAS a bike!", in the same way i look back at my 250 and realise how fun it was - i regret selling it, but it had to go.

Get an MX125 same engine as Rs 125. Off road supermoto just change tyres and your off road, put on road tyres and your hitting 100+ speeds like rs 125.

Aprilia MX 125 Is the best 125 bike its common sense.

I hear its also going to get a lot more expensive, possibly up to 800 odd quid by the time you've got your license, provided you dont fail any tests Confused

Just don't spend a lot of money on a 125. Get something cheap, and pass your test.

A mate of mine spent £3k on a mito, he lost a hell of a lot of money when he sold it.

RS125s do look good, but they're more expensive to run and insure, and that's assuming they don't go bang. Which more than likely they will at some point.

No-one wants a CG125 let's face it. Maybe look at a DT125? Something traily style?
