Firstly i think ill say Hey Hey all!! Just got tinternet put back on Dance! and i must say i still enjoying reading this crap after all this time away Thumbs Up

Anyways im wanting to put new clutch springs in my cbr and im wondering if anyone has any tips on getting the bloody nuts off the crank. Dont have an impact wrench, dont want to use big hammers, just spanners or a socket set and possibly brute force? Didnt try too long at it, miserable outside. Ideas anyone??

oooo, yea, anyone know to take rev limiter off the CDI too? Need something to play with at the weekend.

You don't usually need to take any nuts off the crank to replace clutch springs. Just the 5 or 6 bolts round the clutch pressure plate. The springs are under them, do them one at a time and you wont disturb the rest of the clutch unecessarily. Usually waltz off using a 10mm socket if you put the bike in gear and tie the back brake down to stop you turning the engine, they shouldn't be tight.

Couldn't say I noticed a rev limiter when I rode a CBR125 unless you're taking it over the redline, which is a pointless exercise in that it has stopped making power long before then. It's also there for a reason, ie. to stop you overrevving your engine and tangling the valves, although admittedly, that would give you something to do at the weekend. A full top-end rebuild would certainly kill some time.

I just cant seem to get the engine casing off at all, I took all the allen bolts out, and tried wiggling, prising, smacking it with a rubber mallet and it just wont budge so i assumed the crank is holding it together. Ill have another look when its not raining. Sounds and feels like it has a rev limiter the bouncing on the revs seems a bit uniform to be honest (not that i do this a lot, just when i want my 20cm can to squeal like a pig).

There's always a bolt you've missed somewhere!

Once you have all the bolts out, there's usually at least two dowels buried in the cover, so the only way you will get it off is to pull it straight out. A good way of doing that is to turn the clutch actuator - with all the bolts out, instead of pushing the clutch in it should pop the cover off.

And make sure you either have a new paper gasket for the cover or some gasket paper to cut one out of because it WILL tear.

The crank categorically does not go through the clutch cover. See anything spinning outside the cover when the engine is running? No? Well it isn't attached to the crank then.

If you take off the little plastic cover in the centre of the casing there is a big gold nut in a deep recess that you can turn the crank with, that is why i thought it was holding the cases on. job done now anyways, thanks for info though, was just a bugger took a lot of wiggling around to get off. Have a new problem but ill start a new thread.
