Right then guys, I'm after a bit of advice. I've just spent the last couple of evenings cleaning up the chain on my R6. Its gone a bit rusty mainly because I left it too long at the end of last year when I parked my bike up for the winter and didn't get round to cleaning it up quick enough.

Anyway I have managed to get it looking reasonable by using copious amounts of elbow grease and scotchbrite but it is still pitted on the surface of the side plates. Now I realise it has gone past the point of no return but what do you reckon is best to lube the chain with now in order to A: keep the rust at bay and B: if the rust does return, something that won't allow it to be seen so easily.

This is the second time I have had to clean the chain up like this, this year. Last time I just sprayed it well with my Motul chain lube, but the rust seems to have reformed underneath the lube itself. I'm keen to avoid playing this scrubbing and cleaning game all of the while. So anyone any ideas???

WD40 to deal with the remaining rust, then a generous dose of chain lube right after a ride has always done the job for me. Thumbs Up

Because the chain is pitted the rust will just keep building up the only thing you can do is slow the rust down,
ie take the chain off (if poss)clean it with a good chain cleaner and treat it with rust remover (Jenolite), be careful cos its prob an O-ring chain use a small panit brush,

Once treated, give it another clean and wipe off

Put it back on the bike and keep it really coated with a good chain WAX not OIL as it sticks more

This should give you the rest of the year without any probs as long as you keep putting the wax on Very Happy

Hope this is of help Smile
