Hi guys, after being knocked off by a drink driver, im getting bored and restless as its coming up to a month now of being off work, not being able to do much so getting lardy from just eating/sleeping/watching jeremy kyle, and missing out on the nice weather riding and extra daylight.

This is the first time im dealing with any sort of claim and im only insured tpft. nothing seems to be happening insurance wise... ive sent off a load of paperwork but dont know what im meant to do now. I've managed to move my bike from police recovery back into my garage at the moment. Itchy reckons its gonna be a cat D, and i can get it back on the road for cheap if i forget about the plastics for now and i'd like to start looking into that. but obviously i cant touch it yet till someones looked at it. which is starting to look like a very long time...

The dude that hit me is out on bail at the moment, and i gave his details to my insurers who contacted him and are having trouble getting his insurance details as although he has got his insurance certificate, when he rang his insurers up they had no record of his policy.... currently they are supposed to be looking into it as maybe an "admin problem", but they told me that couple of weeks back and i've still not heard anything back... should i be ringing them everyday and pestering them?

Also if it comes to his insurance certificate being void, then wouldnt he also be in trouble for driving without insurance? seem to recall the policeman handling my case saying he was given a producer though and if he had his insurance certificate thats really not valid will they know? My main worry is where will that leave me? im already skint from not being able to work and spending 3 times more in travel than i do if i could get around on my bike. would i just have to fix her up myself when i get the use of my arm back?

G.

It may take six months to a year to get your money from a claim.

It should be quicker for them to examine your bike, I'd have thought.

If I were you I'd be pestering them every day. Trust me they need it!

If I was at home with an injured arm after being knocked off by a drink driver, I'd be on the phone to anyone and everyone trying to get him sent down and my money back off of his insurance company. If his insurance is fake then the police need to know about it right away, and then you need to start a claim with the motor insurers bureau (MIB). This will also take ages.

Good luck!

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

This is the part where i'd be finding out where the guy lives and making him pay out of his own pocket before he finds he won't be able to work for a few months either.
