I took my bike apart last night on my cbr600fy and i managed to take out the four washers just under the carb, put it back together and had a blast on it this morning, all the gear changes are smoother in low revs, but once the powerband kicks in it feels jerky, and if you get in top revs and change up a gear it seems like it slows the bike down then it has to pick up again. My first thought was that it was restricted on the sliders, and something stoping them from opening all the way so not enough air is getting in. Would this cause the problem im having ? could anyone tell me how far the sliders are ment to open and if im right about it being restricted in that part, if so is it just a case off unscrewing the four screws on the cap to get to the slider ? Will i need to reset my carbs if i take the caps off ? hope some one can help me out on this. thanks a lot

Sounds to me like the bike shop which did the restricition did it properly and balanced the carbs afterwards. They may possibly have adjusted the fuelling too.

When I derestricted my VFR400 it ran like a bag 'o' shite and wouldn't idle, so I took it in for a service and it was fine afterwards.

I'd have thought if the sliders didnt open then the bike would just run as if you hadn't fully opened the throttle, IE smoothly but not full power.

Also I don't think I've ever heard of a restriction which involves two types of restrictor...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

since posting this message, iv been searching the site and iv came across this,

(its literally tank, air box, carbs, remove washers...

Then you take the black caps off the top of the carbs (watch out, there's a spring!), then remove the black cotton reels from inside the spring. Replace everything in the opposite order to which you removed them and hey presto!)

going to give it a try this weekend see if hes right, also found my restriction certificate Very Happy and that says its restricted by blades and caps, so it sounds like he it could be right, but ill see this weekend.
