I have just got my first "proper" bike, as above, I am in love with it, but the temp gauge doesnt work and I know nothing about em , I was just wondering if any one knows of any problems common with the bike, other than the alternator magnets coming apart.
Its an F reg which is 88-89 if im right, any help would be great
Cheers in advance

Well, check the wires to the temperature sender on the radiator are well attached and free from corrosion.
Check the radiator has plenty of fluid in it by topping up the coolant via the radiator filler cap. The temp. sender is near the top, if it runs very low, the sender is not sitting in coolant and reads zero despite the fact that the radiator is boiling.
Otherwise it would be best to test the power supply, the guage itself then the sender. The guage is easy enough. Testing the sender involves taking it off and hanging it in a pan of water on the stove while you measure the resistance.
I don't have my workshop manual at work but if someone hasn't come up with the procedure by tonight, I'll check it up for you.
Rear shock adjusters seize, unitrak suspension bushes wear and one of the wires attaching to the main fuse has a habit of corroding to dust (no idea why but I've seen it three times on my own bikes and quite a few times on others). ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink.
