PostPosted: 17:34 - 27 Mar 2007    Post subject: Ebay Question. Reply with quote

Hiya, I have my bike on ebay at the moment and I said that I don't accept PayPal, however I have just got a message and it says: -

"Hello, sorry to bother you as i have read the listing but i wonder if i could use Pay Pal for the full winning price after the auction has finished? I am VERY interested but do not have the cash only credit. Thank you in advance of your response, Jason."

He seems genuine, has 286 positive feedback, so I guess it'd be alright, but wouldn't I be ripped on PayPal charges? Is there any way he could fraud me using Paypal?

Thanks in advance.

Ask him to pay the paypal fees
I think is around 2-5%
I always tell buyers to pay that, Or you will have to calculate the final cost before he pays.
There should be something on Paypals site to say how much ectra is chraged.

Whoa, worked out if it sold for £2000, it would be £58 in PayPal fees. Have emailed the prospective buyer that he would need to pay that much!

Why not get him to use Nochex - Its free and as far as im aware its very simlar to paypal.
Failing that, tell him to do a Direct bank transfer - same day money.
I prefer the DB tranfers - less hassel Thumbs Up

PPffttt Email the seller and say fees or you wont do the deal.

No, they really are. I sold something for £500 on ebay once, £25 ebay fees + £25 paypal fees, what a fkin joke.

if it was a £10 total fee I could understand, it covers costs and makes them a nice little profit. £50 is damn extortionate.

All the fees are clearly explained, it's your choice to continue using them.

I don't really have a problem with PayPal taking a fair chunk, having a business account and a PDQ machine or using Netbanx / WorldPay and the like is a long way from being free too.

it wasn't that it was about justification , much like illegal bank charges it has to reflect the cost of the service,

And as soon as you do that Ebay won't honour things as it's against their user policy to charge a fee if you pay via Paypal.

I ran a business online with payments via Paypal, they charged me a fortune in fees.

Can someone explain how this Direct Bank Link thing works? It's something I've vaguely heard about but what do you need and how do you go about it?

Cheers Thumbs Up

P.S. In reply to your original question Jon, if he pays you via Paypal then it will go straight into your Paypal account. As soon as its in your account if he tries anything he can;t as he has no way of getting the money from your account. Unless he tries a fast one to Paypal saying you ripped him off, then they will investigate. Had it happen to me a few times. Catch 22 Thumbs Down
