Just wondering what you guys use to apply copper slip to the backs of brake pads, bolts, etc.

For brake pads, I smear copper grease onto a tissue and wipe it on, to prevent contamination from my fingers on the pad material.

Any more elegant ways of doing things like this?

Cheers,

t Smile

microfibre cloth? keeps all the shitty bits of dirt off. Toilet roll, kitchen roll, tissues etc tend to leave traces of material all over the place.

Microfibre cloths are the way forward. Polishing, applying liquids, wiping up spils etc....

Dip my finger in and smeared it on. With bolts I dip them in then smooth round using two fingers.

You don't need that much copper slip though do you?

It's a bit of a mystery to me because my grease collection is rather lacking, consisting of motor oil, copper slip, lm grease and WD40/ACF50 (Not that they're grease).

Just to add for anyone else, I got my grease on Ebay from here £3.99 and free delivery. If I remember correctly it came next day courier too so how they make any money on it I don't know.

I don't put anything on my pads just stick em in. If you use copaslip just smear it on sparingly with your finger. Remember that using copaslip with dissimilar alloys can actually cause seizing so dont smaother it all over the place or it might get into the gap between the caliper pistons and the caliper.

Got a question actually, I use a thin coat to try and eliminate rear brake squeal. It worked for about 6 hours but then it started up again... Do I need a thicker coating?

You might do but don't put too much on. Should last the life of the pads. . . . well mine always does.

Well there was a sligh circular mark on the back of the pads which I presume is the pistol, I just greased this bit but do I need to do the entire back of the pad instead?

No, just where the piston makes contact with the back of the pad. Wink

For bolts I just dunk the tip of them in, and when you screw the bolt into the item it tends to spread it over the whole thread of the bolt. For pads etc I'd just smear it on with my finger

Went to someone's house last week, for some reason he decided to use copper grease on the spring bolt on his gate. I went to open it and ended up with a nice brown greasy hand Mad
