Being new to the UK, I find it interesting that my BF has tea and biscuits most mornings.

I don't think I knew anyone back in the states who had cookies for breakfast as often if ever, but I did know a few who'd have coffee and doughnuts. Cookies in the States are not thought of as anything other than a snack or dessert item, so to me it's just so strange to have an entire meal consist of them.

So this morning when we made morning tea, he picked up the biscuits as he does and I said "What would you eat for breakfast if you didn't have biscuits?".
So now I'm posting this to see if his stout defence of this as a common occurrence in England is true.

How many of you enjoy this?

If anything I'd be going with the American preference if I had the choice.
Although in the absence of doughnuts (or a full cooked English), I'd usually just have coffee and toast

Do it if im in a rush, but most mornings its either toast and a brew or pick up a couple sausage butties and a brew from the local shop.

Brew and biscuits are usually for when watching telly, have a nice dip of said biscuit in the brew Smile

Mind you, we don't eat pankakes with syrup on them for breakfast. That's a dessert for after dinner.

By way of breakfast I have a fag on my way to work and a cup of tea when I get there. I then try and grab a sandwich at about 11.30.

I know of noone who has biscuits for breakfast.

That's what I used to have most mornings back in the secondary school days. A nice cup of tea and some rich tea biscuits. But nowadays I am hardly ever up in time for breakfast so just go straight into having lunch. Maybe eggs and bacon or something like that.

Tea and crumpets for tea-time anyone? Cor blimey. Razz

I think he might have been having a bit of a giggle there.

I've not known anyone to have biscuits as a main breakfast 'meal'. it's more of an afternoon 'tea time' snack.

I've been known to occa sionallyhave coffee and biscuits for breakfast in the absence of having any breakfast-type ingredients in. That's only on weekends though. I never have time for breakfast in the week.

My mum, however, always used to have tea and biscuits for breakfast until she started dieting (about 15 years ago and counting)!

I so did not know that! Smile

Thank explains why he always liked going out to a diner for pancakes in the morning when he was visiting me.

Pancakes are some of the best breakfast food ever. When you can get syrup all over everything: the pancakes, the eggs, and have a bunch left to dip your sausages into! mmmmmmmmmm.

I'll occasionally 'reallocate' a couple of packets of custard creams that we are supposed to hand out to the detainees if I've not had a chance to grab anything from the canteen in the morning. It's not a very satisfying breakfast though, and I wouldn't usually dream of it at home.

I have a problem with this...

The black pudding very rarely makes it into the frying pan Embarassed

Personally 5 days out of 7 my breakfast consists of 2 coffee's 3/4 cigs, I usually have food then around 1pm. Although if I take a nap afterwork (sign of my age I'm afraid) then I DO enjoy a biscuit or two to nibble on when I wake up - I think it's the sugar content!Thumbs Up

No no no! Not custard creams, they come second to bourbons. Yes, if there are no bourbons available, but bourbon-biscuity goodness just goes so much better with tea in the morning, especially as a pre-breakfast snack while waiting for the sausages to cook when camping Thumbs Up
