Here's the deal. My bike had a pyramid undertray fitted, with some LED brake lights on. All was fine and dandy until the back of one cover got cracked, and the wiring in one of the LED bits went, so I ordered replacements.

They sent me some really similar, but slightly different lights. They've just got different style facias. Looks identical wiring.

There is the standard block which has 3 spade slots in. I'm guessing Positive, Negative and Earth?

The new lights have Red wires, Black ones, and Yellow ones.

I'm guessing they're Positive, Negative and Earth. The previous earth was black and white wire.

I've put them all in, fitted nicely with connectors and although they work fine, the actual braking doesn't make the light go any brighter. Just stay at the side-light rating. Meaning people don't know when I'm braking!

Any ideas?

Thanks.. Nick.

Just had a look at the tail light on my R6, there is three wires connected to the light, they look to be one for earth (-ve), one for brake light (+ve) & other for normal tail light (+ve).

From the sounds of it you may need to swap the two wires (the two +ve's) around as it sounds like you may have wired the brake light into the tail light wire.

Have you got a multi meter, it will make things a lot easier. Just place the multi meter in one of the connectors (not the earth one) and see what the voltage readings are before and whilst the brake is applied)

Hope this makes sense

Thanks for checking on yours. What colours are the original wires if you don't mind having a quick glance again?

I've used a multi meter actually, and it didn't pick ANYTHING up at all, but maybe it's just 'cos the block was really hard to get in to. I'll have another go in a few minutes.

It might be the connection. Hmm. I'll go check Smile

3 Spades =

1 x Earth (goes to Battery -ve)
1 x +12V feed for the rear position light
1 x +12V feed for the brake light

So, I guess nothing is happening on the 12V feed for the brake light. You need a multimeter or a test bulb to check for sure. But first, see if the brake works with any one of the brake levers (front, back).

Alternately, your brake and position lights could be mixed up.

Right. I've checked those.

The earth is the black wire.

The side light feed is te red, and the brake light is the yellow.

Both feeds for the lights gave about 10v when nothing was pressed, and the yellow showed 15V ish when the brake was pressed, however no brake light came on!

Sad

I took some pics of what I've got going on at the moment:

Overall:

Back of each LED unit:

Spade connector box:

Tail of the bike, doesn't change

I'm really really confused, and I even got a volt meter to make sure that the red wire (stop light) was giving out more volts when the brake was pushed. It went from 11V to 16v (approx) so it's obviously kicking more volts out, just not working!

Any ideas?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Something horribly wrong with those readings. Measure the voltage of each of the wires with respect to the -ve terminal on the battery. You should only ever see ~12.6V (Battery voltage) or 0V.
