NTV won't start or misfires for a couple seconds then dies,

Spark plugs very petrol like not oily but petroly = points to running rich

airfilter dirty (parts didn't come) = running rich (can remove and replace with green scourers)

airbox had quite a bit of petrol + engine oil in it. (odd)

drained the carbs and it pissed lots of watery fuel everywhere = running rich (I know this cus I wheeled the bike away and tossed a match into it and only part of it burned). (this made
a puddle about the size of a dinner plate)

erm so what do I do about it? , I require this bike for transport , and filters/Sparks
I can't get till Monday (being transportless currently) and require it to run even
poorly for now,

I've noticed this problem all week but haven't had time to fix it properly, usually
managing to start it and it runs fine (with a higher than normal idle speed). and can
usually turn over the engine enough to generate an enourmous back fire which then
the bike runs ok

any thoughts?

other than get rid of the damned bike , problem after problem this bike, I'm thinking about if its worth spending more money on it since it has no value!.

inconviently the metro is going to be shut down for a couple of months for repairs = nightmare
transport scenario.

Thanks

Get a lift or catch a bus and get airfilter and sparkplugs now before the shop closes. There isn't any other way to sort it.

Not to sound worse-case or anything. But have you got a compression tester?

Sounds a lot like when my XJ600 head gasket went.

Although that wouldn't account for water in the fuel, or fuel in the airbox.
