Has anyone recently heard anyone say something which inspired them, or gave them hope?
Please quote away.

I hate all that finding inspiration in a specific phrase codswallop - I find it cringeworthy in the extreme.

People that have that sort of tripe in their BCF sigs or spout it off as if hearing it will make the recipient think "Bloody Hell - I'll change my life on the basis of the phrase 'Perfection is the acceptance of the contentment that you already possess'" make me feel better about myself Wink

Every day above the ground. Is a good day. Kinda sums up how I want to live my life.

That's EXACTLY what I mean phil. Let's face it, it's hardly inspirational is it? I mean, unless you're a worm, mole or a full time miner it's just plain common sense Wink

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver glint on the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse,
That you must not quit.

Unsure of who actually wrote it, I was given a framed copy of it at my boyfriend's funeral once upon a time.
I've since passed it to my friend when she found out she was losing her eyesight so she could memorise it, and she in turn gave it as a gift to her friend who had 3 miscarriages in the space of a year.

This made me smile, but it's true at the same time. It reminded me to try to look at life in a nicer way, rather than concentrating on the negative all the time:

"I once had a garden filled with flowers that grew on dark thoughts but they needed constant attention, and one day I decided I had better things to do"

Hopes are simply dreams that are one step closer to reality.

I said that last week, much to my amazement Smile

im not being morbid honest but when my other half was in a coma and the doctors told me to expect the worst i would sit holding his hand and say i love you giving three squeezes, after a month i told him i loved him and i felt three squeezes back, and when the docs said you are reading too much unto it i ignored them and knew he was going to be fine, we can be holding hands and he still does it to this day and it lifts me even now Very Happy

Not exactly a quote, but a philosophy by which I live

If you don't like it, change it. If you can't change it, accept it.

Which is like the Alcoholic Anonymous Serenity Prayer :-

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
