To further tempt the forum curse I propose we play a little game...
If you've binned your bike since first coming to this forum (or the old NSR125.com forum if you remember that far back) stick up a reply detailing your crash(es) with the following bits of info:
- Describe your crash, what happened and why...
- How much £££ damge did you do?
- If you learned anything from it, what?
Hopefully if enough people play along we'll be able to learn from each other's mistakes - and we'll get an idea of how much money we've spent on crash repairs as a forum [/list]

I'll start us off...
Crash 1 - NSR vs Car - Total damage: £800
Just after starting NSR125.com I managed to smash my pride and joy up by whizzing over a hump back bridge to find a set of temporary traffic lights and a big queue of traffic just over the lip. My attempt at stopping in time was somewhat hindered by the front wheel being airborne at the moment I noticed the cars, so my braking caused it to lock and when it touched down a split second later the front slid away from me and I ended up under somebody's Nissan Sunny
Damage wasn't too bad, just the upper front cowling, screen and headlight unit which I very foolishly replaced with Honda original parts . As for me I k/o'd myself for a few seconds and managed to mash up a few ribs. Lesson learnt: stop riding like a prat, and don't trust the other side of a bridge to be clear of traffic even on an empty road at midnight!
Crash 2 - RVF vs Kerb - Total damage: £1000+
A few months ago, riding to Chelsea Bridge, I went over one of the bridge junctions along the embankment and lost it on a patch of oil somebody had kindly donated. Me and the bike whacked the kerb, flipped over it and ended up ploughing up a bit of the council's lovely bush. Damage consisted of a cracked wheel, bent rear subframe and mucho bodywork mashed up. I came off pretty lucky with 2 broken fingers. Lesson learnt: just because the road surface you're currently on is nice, doesn't mean some muppet's not pouring oil all over it around the next bend. |

Since gettin my NSR (and looking at nsr125.com and the old forum):
(and plent more cos I've forgotten half of them )
NSR: Going round a corner in the wet, getting the back wheel to *just* slide, then going over a 4"-5" pot hole
£13 for a new set of mirrors
NSR: Geting my pegs down going round a u turn, road camber changed
NSR: Going over a very big mini roundabout, car pulls out across infront of me and I go down.
New forks and yolk £100ish (still to get them)
Exhaust £65 of beano, but it was pretty knackered anyway
KLR: Just after I got it back from Essex when I got it back off my mum. On the road outside my house waiting for my flat mate: 'Wow this has got a really tight turning circle' <drops bike>
KLR: Just fitted a new clutch cable, slightly wet cross roads and cold tyres with me on the inside of traffic turning right. Accelerate hardish, but forget the biting point is now significantly nearer.
KLR: Icy road on the way to work, very slightly too much throttle on a corner.
<touches very big bit of wood> I'm being carefull on the zx though |

I binned my bike 2 months ago nsr125rr1 2001 black and silver
Proceeding down the road overtaking parked cars, a red gold v reg pulled out around 4 meters infront of me when i was travelling at 60mph, i have enough time to say "fu...." turn the wheel before slamming into his wheel arch. I went over the front denting the fuel tank with my hip... slammed sideways into the wind screen, only a glancing blow my head snapped back and my roof boxers front was torn off.... i rolled off the bonnet then 4-5 meters down the road. stayed on the ground for around 5 seconds in total silence before realising i could move, got to my feet with people yelling at me to lay down as i msut have broken something jsut didnt feel the pain. Took of my helmet as a dispatch rider made me sit down after id walked to the curb.
The nsr's front had caved in the fairing had exploded on impact the exhaust was jammed into the radiator by the front tyre that had twisted 90 degrees forcing the handlebars through the dials. As they picked it up to get it to the side of the road the petrol tank along with the front lights fell off.... according to the witnesses i had snapped my head back on impact and they thought i was dead, nearly was because the bike went up in the air and came down on the bonnet just after id slid of it....
The car was written off i forced the wheel through the side of the engine... and out the other side, they couldnt move the front 2 tyres.
damage totals
3200 of honda nsr
700 motorcycle gear
4000 golf
8 grand of damage not bad for a 125
booking my test asap so i can ride my zzr, to this day ive had no ill effects from the accident not even a sore neck...

Ok - here goes:
1) Being a twat and overtaking a slow scooter whilst filtering through traffic and didnt notice a car pulling out a side road - smack straight into the side of it... £2000 worth of cosmetic damage.
2) Leaving the bike out on the sidestand on a slight incline on a very windy night and finding its been blown over onto a metal post and fuc*ed the tank... £500 for a new tank.
Thats it.... hopefully no more!
Damn did I speak too soon...
3) Straight into the back of a majestic wine warehouse van when he decided to slam his brakes on and come to an abrupt halt.. then I did buried into his back door. Ouch.... BUGGER! £???? yet to be assessed!!! ____________________ Love is 1050cc

Crash 3 - SR125 vs Floor - Total damage: £20
Trying to get a vertical stoppie happening outside zim's house on my old sr125, just after I bought the nsr... went a bit all too vertical
Damage, broke the plastic clock cover - those bikes are indistructable! Lesson learnt: don't pull stoppies with siezed brakes |

NSR vs. Old man:
I was stupidly chasing a guy on a VFR800 down the middle of a very very busy road just outside dublin city. Noticed that the two lanes to my left had stopped just up ahead, just before i saw the front of a volvo something or other come out from behind the bus at the front.
Went full on into it at 40-50mph, hit the tank leaving a dent the size of a fist, flipped over the bonet and landed in the middle of the road screaming due to the pain of my privates, not a scratch bar that.
Destroyed the whole front end, lights, indicators, mirrors, mudguard, bent the forks.
Had to pay the old cunts insurance as claiming on bike insurance in your first year over here means you never get insured again.
IE500 to the old fucker and IE900 or so to repair everything on the NSR back to original.
NSR vs. narrowing bend
First day out on my new bike, following a maniac on an NS-1 thru a corner in liffey valley just outside dublin, didn't know the corner tightened up (as he was supposed to be teaching me), paniced and straighted up the bike. The front wheel caught the kerb and the bike slid up against it and ripped along side the kerb for about 10 meters. Fucked up my leg and arm which were dragged along and scratched and ripped the right side fairing. And i was going in to pick up the new right side fairing in town on the vs. old man crash!
Lessons learned:
target vision is bad
learned how to turn really really well (and am still learning) |

NSR vs DIESEL vs CURB and head vs roadsign
On way to Silverstone, breaking for an island, hit diesel, lost grip, passed over white line, funnily enough that back tyre gripped again, then weeeeeeeeeee flipped,I went one way, the bike another - which ultimately bounced off a curb and flew through large amount of undergrowth collecting grass/nettles/mud, and loosing the fairing.
Me went flying off and bounced my head off a road sign, taking a chunk out of my helmet and denting the sign - WOOOOOO HOOOOO!!
Total cost...... (havent really started repair work yet!) ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

Luckily Tanner - I didnt break anything, much to the disbelief of the doctors and the witnesses!
I can still ride, as my bike (though ugly and naked) is roadworthy. I came out OK. It could have ben far far worse - like if I had been hit by a car.
And dont worry - I agree with you, but not necessarily that ALL women are c=shit drivers...... personally.... I think Im rather good (head swells) LOL! ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!
