Thumbs Down

I was looking for another helmet a few months ago, something like a roof boxer or craft RX7 when, on one of my trips, I saw a Caberg Brutus. Now I thought Caberg was a good name. The colour matched one of my bikes, I liked the shape, it fitted well and was quite light, so I brought it.

I've used it just a few times, maybe 100 miles, with just one problem that I was coping with, until last week.

That one problem is that it is one of the worst helmets I have owned for fogging up. My own fault, the visor is only anti scratch, not anti fog. Not a problem I thought, I'll get a new visor with anti fog. The trouble is I can't find any so I had to ride around with the visor propped open.

Anyway we had a lot of fog last week and I wear glasses so there's no way of winning this one. I get to within a mile of work and I can't see a thing so I pull over and just give the inside of the visor a wipe with my finger, this is what I ended up with. For some unknown reason the coating on the inside is flaking off. I've attempted to contact caberg but the only place I can find contact details is on an Italian website and they haven't bothered to reply. I'm going to have to buy a new visor but all the replacements available are genuine caberg Rolling Eyes BTW I think its the same visor on the trip helmet.

You should be able to get the place you bought it from to sort it.

Worth looking at a pin lock or fog city system if you do get another visor the same - and this would probably help protect the inside of the visor as well.

Totally agree but I brought it when I was in Germany Rolling Eyes

I know, you don't need to say it.

I was thinking of fitting a fog city insert but not sure it would look right with the shape of the visor?

Oddly enough, my caberg V2 is the best standard helmet / visor I have had for not fogging up. The worst I've had is the Shoei raid II. It is simply unusable without the pinlock insert. Shoei must have realised that, because they supply one with every Raid II they sell. HJC's are pretty bad too for fogging up.

Laughing

They supply a free insert with every Shoei they sell mate. Its not just because Raid 2's may fog up badly... Laughing And of course its going to fog up without the pinlock - Its a snug fitting helmet with not a lot of room between you and the visor - thats a selling point compared to the majority of cheaper helmets that use one shell shape.

They developed their pinlock system and it works, but in order for them to market it effectively they throw in a free fogfree pinlock. With companies like HJC and Caberg trying to claim they have a fog-resistant visor, Shoei and Arai need something similar, so they throw in a £20 pinlock insert that is 500% better than any "fogfree" visor out there.

Thumbs Up

As for the Caberg visor, go into basically any bike shop thats near you - If they have a Motrax stand, then they can help you out Smile They may not be able to give you a refund - obviously you didnt buy it from their store, but they may be able to sort you out with a new visor at least. Thumbs Up

Even though this is a negative thread I looked on eBay and just bought one. Thumbs Up

Think I paid a bit over the odds, £42 for a red one with white stripes with a black visor included.

But it sure is sexy, and sure will look fugly on my blue bike.

Yeah I was looking at the two on ebay just to get some cheap visors!

The other one went for about £26. I forgot to put a sniper bid on it Rolling Eyes

The visor and lack of response is the only thing I'm having a winge over. I love the look of the helmet and it is definitely one of the lightest I've owned. Hopefully you can tell me if you have the same problem with your visor.

Gaz, how have you got on with the helmet?

This is the reply I had from Motrax:

Quote:
The Brutus Visor has an anti-fog coating which it appears on your helmet to have come away. It is very rare for this to happen and if you were to purchase a replacement visor it should not be affected in this kind of way. The only recommendation would be to make sure that you do not use a detergent to clean the inteior surface but a mild soap solution or even just water.

The visor is identical to the one used on the Trip helmet and this is what you will need to order as your replacement, if you choose to do so.

None of the visor suppliers I've checked mention an anti fog coating? Anyway,I think its time for a dark visor.

On my dark visor it's come away slightly, clear one seems ok but then I don't think that's been used very much.

I can't notice it when I'm wearing the lid, only when I look at it closely from the outside, so I'll live with it methinks.
