[Solved, see below]

Hi,

One of my mates runs a Kawasaki ZX6R.

Recently when he's been riding it he has noticed that it struggles and burbles above 4,000 rpm, and starts to really feel crap at about 7,000 rpm.

He says it feels like the fuel is running out on it? I'm not insured on it (Don't have any bike cover Sad ) So I can't take it out for a run myself...

Anyone have any idea what's up with it?

We've taken out and oiled the air filter (He washed it and put it in bone dry - Doh!)

We also checked the oil, and there is mayo behind the filler cap and you can also see a little bit on the wall of the crankcase when you shine a torch down.

His coolant is below the minimum line, but his temp gauge isn't reporting any overheating.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks,

T

If it just started to misfire after he did the air filter then it's a fair bet that he has knocked off the rubber pipe that pressurises the float bowls.

Check the spark plugs are seated correctly. Had exactly the same issue on the 12R in that at certain rev ranges the spark plug was 'rattling' and loosing connection, to cause the burbling.

This eventually cased my plug to die...

Check/clean the fuel filter. Clean and balance the carbs. Replace the plugs. Have the valve clearances been done?
