PostPosted: 09:52 - 13 Apr 2007    Post subject: paddock stand I made!! Reply with quote

i go to worcester sixth form college and one of my subjects i do is product design, so i thought id make a paddock stand for my project.

it began its life as a three meter length of steel tube, which i proceeded to bend into the shape i wanted from my design
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/maximus2312/Photo-0060.jpg
from there i made the wheels and brackets and brazed them all together
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/maximus2312/Photo-0083_076-1.jpg
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/maximus2312/Photo-0082_075-1.jpg
not the strongest design i know but it is my first time doing something like this and wanted to make it look different.

from there i made the braces to stop the stand from bending under weight, brazed on also
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/maximus2312/Photo-0126.jpg
then for the attachments to lift the bike itself
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/maximus2312/Photo-0128.jpg
however i had a problem with the first attempt and had to adjust their positioning on the stand
then the attachment to the swingarm was made, and covered in a plastic powdercoat

https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/maximus2312/Photo-0133_003.jpg

the finished article
https://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t131/maximus2312/Photo-0130_000.jpg

so what do you think, its my first time at this, before i'd never done brazing or bent any pipe.

cheers,

max

Stick some padding in the thing that holds the swingarm so it doesn't scratch it Wink

its already protected by the plastic powdercoat stuff.

it wont lift a bike until i make a small adjustment to the attachment, which i'll need to braze so cant do that till back at college

How is it adjusted to fit the width of different swinging arms?

How does it fit on bikes where one side of the swingarm is at one height, and the other is higher or lower?

(I only ask as the Buell has a really wide swing arm where one arm is higher than another, apart from at the spindle, as one side is curved and the other isn't!)

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

The only thing that look questionable are the wheel brackets, they look like they might be too weak.

i ride an rs50 virus and for MarJay it is specifically measured to fit only my bike bike so it isn't exactly adjustable
