the sooner you can get onto a geared bike, the sooner you can learn how to ride properly. there might be more options open to you though, what age are you?

Oh yes, god forbid it should be 5mph slower. Rolling Eyes
Just get the geared bike already, before you turn into a chav and get knocked off by Luke.

Why not just keep the ped until your 17 and getting a geared 125 would be a bit more fun.

Just aslong as it has gears. I went for the Aprilia RX50, because it looks like a chunky bike (and im a big lad!) And doesnt pretend to be a sportsbike. Still runs on the AM6 engine so you dont loose much speed compared to the sports reps. It will put you worlds ahead of twist n' go. Took me 4 lessons before my A2 test (pass) after a year on the RX. I just got insured on my CBR400RR two days ago now Thumbs Up

i read that u can put dt125 engines in the tzr50 , if u can do that i will probly buy the tzr because it means i would jst hav 2 buy a 125 engine instead of a new bike that would probly cost considerably more , does anybody know if its true , if the chassy is strong enough 2 hold the engine ,

wat is the top speed you got on your rx50

It'll be completely illegal and if you crash / get crashed into, your insurance (assuming you have any) will not pay out and your policy will be cancelled on the spot. There will undoubtedly be further convictions as far as police go but I am not well versed on these.

What's the point? Can't you wait a year?

I think he means, he'll keep the 50cc engine in and replace it with the 125cc engine when he turns 17, so he doesnt have to buy another bike.

Put a dt125 engine in a tzr 50? That would be the worst you could do for legal reasons(insurance as said above) but also, how do you know you could handle the speed? I'd say swap for a geared 50 now, cos you get the gear experience, plus you get more out of a geared 50, than twist and go, I'm also guessing you've illegally got a 70cc big bore kit on that Speedfight. There are loads of geared 50's about, better than any twist 'n' go Imo.

Oh, and please don't write/type in text speak, we generally have proper punctuation here, thank you. Thumbs Up Wink

you need to ask the insurance company if they would insure it, but they might ask for an MOt or SVA test.. don't quote me on the last part though Cool Doing it and not asking them is a mahoosive no no. Thumbs Up

I'd have to say, its not worth the insurance hassles. Surely its easier and probably cheaper just to sell the 50 and put the money towards a 125?

It cost me £600 to upgrade my Speedfight to my NSR (plus insurance). I dunno how much it costs to buy and fit a new engine, but its sure as hell less hassle just to buy a new bike rather than butcher your old one. I'm sure you'd save money on insurance too.

Just buy a total shitter of a manual 50, so you can sell it for the same (or more) than you paid for it when you turn 17, then do your full test and ride a proper bike Thumbs Up

I agree with most of them. brand new tzr50 is too expensive.
But if you can get some very cheap manual 50cc bike, I think it's better than scooter. I had C50 and NS50F, NS50F was tripple fun.
Most peakey engine which didn't run below 7000rpm. But it was just fun toy for me. LS125 was much more powerful compared to NS50F though.
and NS50F's shocks, tyres, powertrains were only for 50cc power. That's why the bike is so light. If NS50F had LS125engine, it'll be dangerous bike.

you said you are 16, which means you are riding illegally if you are using a70cc. I always understood that at 16 you were limited to 50cc & 30mph. unless the laws have changed recently, can someome in the know confirm this?

57mph screaming its BALLS off (thats indicated). But to be honest you wont get much more out of any sports replica. Just go for your full test when you turn 17 after being on a geared 50cc. Saves fannying about on silly little 125's. Im so glad i done it now, i served my time as a learner and i now ride a bike that doesnt just pretend to be fast. It will rip your face off. And ive only been 17 for 3 months, and im so glad I done it Thumbs Up

125's aren't silly at all, they are sensible machines which prepare a not so experienced rider for a little power, before jumping onto a big bike, I for one know I couldn't have gone from a 50, onto a 400 cos I wouldn't have lasted a week. I still haven't explored the full potential of my 125, but after today's fun, I feel I'm getting there. btw, my 125 will hit 80 no probs, so can easily be a license eater. Quite serious Imo.
