I don't know if there is any other threads about this but as i am aware i could not see any. Basically as i've been searching and getting insurance quote i noticed bike locks can make a big difference i was wondering what locks other people use and what kind of security is on your bikes.

Cheers,
Gareth

Oddly enough, most of the best lock and chain combo's get little or no insurance discount where as the ones that can be cut by a 12 year old with a pen knife get the biggest discounts.

Best thing to do is buy both. An Almax and ground anchor to keep the bike secure and a cheaper thatcham rated one to keep the insurance people happy.

The big thing is your insurance excess. Quite often, if your bike is worth, say £1200 and your excess is £400. If it gets stolen, by the time they have offered you below book value, then taken the excess off, then you take into account the months of policy you lose when you claim it's often not even claiming.

Remember only 1 item of security will get you discount. Even if you fit a Thatcham approved alarm, Datatag, Chains, disc locks. . . Only the highest rated approved device will get you a discount (usually the alarm).

Can't you just say you had a chain and then if it gets nicked say they robbed the chain?

I get two bike related and one rider related discount with Ebike. Almax III with the Squire 65C got me a nice discount.

Apparently, you need to be able to show receipts for any items you're using to get money off your insurance, be they chains, alarms, Tracker, IAM/BikeSafe certs, etc.
