Hi Everyone!
Just wondered if anyone had used those armoured jeans for when on the bike? I saw some really nice ones in Hein and Gericke catalogue and they said they were armoured and protective etc but are they anywhere near as good as leathers? For comparison i use Frank Thomas leathers and love them but sometimes you just want to whack a pair of jeans on when you are off out to see friends or to the shops! Anyway cheers for any advice!

I use Draggin Jeans for my commute because I don't really have the facilities to change when I get to work. They're kevlar-lined which is supposed to protect your skin well (some of the testimonials are very positive about this) but unless you fit them they don't come with knee/hip pads. I'm toying with the idea of getting some pads for them - depends how intrusive they are.

Basically, I'd say they're miles better than plain jeans (you may as well be naked for all the protection they give) but not as good as leathers. I'll wear my leathers if I can and the Draggin Jeans if I can't.

I'd second that.... I wear Draggin Combats, they are comfy and hassle free. I have got knee armour for them, but it just velcros in and isnt much good.

I had a minor low side in the Hein Gericke jeans...

The jeans themselves weren't that expensive but the inserts doubled the price.

Anyway as the bike slid away my left knee went down and there was virtually no damage to the jeans and they protected me just fine. However this was a sub 30mph lowside.

They are a bit warm, a bit heavy and a bit bulky but nowehre near as much as leathers. I can say they aren't proof against battery acid, so mine have had a large hole over the knee for the last year - but that dosnt seem to make any difference to them.

I've also got some draggin jeans combats. The combats weigh a lot less and are compartive with wearing normal combats when off of the bike. However the stitching is starting to come apart (still less than a year) and they have faded really badly which is upsetting considering how much they cost.

I have a couple of pairs of the HG ones and they seem very good. Not sure if they do different models now but the ones i got are massively padded (feels like you're wearing 2 pairs of trackie bottoms under a normal pair of jeans) so are a bit bulky and are very (too?) warm. I was getting sweaty on sub zero temperature days wearing them so you'd lose a stone if you wore them on a sunny day.

Likewise. I must admit I have got a couple of pairs and really like them. Thumbs Up
The knee armour is easy enough to put in and take out, but I agree it isn't the toughest armour you have ever come across.

Likewise, Draggin's are an awesome bit of kit, crap for impact protection, but the abrasion resistance is pretty good.

Ideal with a leater jacket for pub/work.

I have hood jeans combats, with hip and knee armour. Bit bulky, kinda like wearing waterproof trousers, but nowhere near as bulky as leathers. Had them a year or so now, and i cant fault them. Comfy, feel solid, no stitching loose yet, and deeeep pockets. Havent crash tested them, which i'm quite pleased about, but not cos i don't trust em.
