Got tired of my mouse with the tail in the wrong end, so bought a wireless, optical one (Labtec) today. It says it's for notebooks, but it should be OK for PCs, too, right?

Now, it keeps freezing every minute or so for a second/two, which is a bit annoying. Is this normal or shall I just pack it up again and return it to the shop?

Should theoretically be fine, might be worth checking for any power settings in the drivers though. A laptop will normally run on the absolute minimum power outlay, so the mouse may be hitting "standby" a little too enthusiastically.

I'd take it back though, Labtec and Trust are both brands I have little time for. Not especially cheap prices but very shoddy components and build quality as a rule. They'are a little more pricey but Logitech do actually make good mice, had my MX1000 for well over 3 years now and it's fine, battery life is still great. Gets used for gaming, artwork and general browsing for a at least a few hours a day 7 days a week.

Put it in the microwave and set to defrost for 2 minutes.

(Open task manager, is there anything unusual that's intermittantly glomping your CPU? Do you have any high drain USB devices connected such as a USB Soundcard, Hard Disk, Digital camera?)

Nope, got nothing else in particular running, nor anything else in USB drives. My old mouse was fine, this one keeps freezing, so methinks I'll take it back on Saturday, as it's annoying when you're surfing. The mouse is about 60cm away from the PC, directly above the device with just a wooden desk top and an optical mousemat in between, so I don't think it's even that, and if it is, it's just not good enough.
