I have not been riding street for too long but I figured I would try to do a wheelie on my k6 gsxr-600 and cant for the life of me stand it up. I am used to my crf450r which can easily stand up in every gear. Anyhow, the question I have is am I doing something wrong somehow or is it the bike + user error?

(Not sure if this is the right thread or not...let me know. I am kinda new)

Definetly nothing wrong with the bike, just user error Wink

Use the clutch!

I have never really been able to get my sports bike up, but my brothers crosser goes up in first gear, without much hesitation, Imo its all down to nerves, skill and keeping the faith(also knowing the bike a little helps)

Haha, thought that was it. I have been using the clutch though. Second gear rolling start about 15-20mph then using clutch to try and stand it up. Thought about trying first gear but I don't want to flip it either lol.

Try first gear. Second gear is MUCH harder. Wink

Try a power wheelie first! Roll along at about 6k rpm and dip the throttle slightly then put the power on.

Or you could accelerate to the redline in first and the front comes up about 10-12k. Mr. Green

Remember sports bikes often have quite long-action throttles as standard. Mid revs on any decent sports 600 in first and it should jump up off the power with a flick of the wrist.

Make sure you're giving it a decent quick-flick. If nothing else, all the modern sports bikes I've ridden, you pretty much just need to hold the throttle fully open from low revs and it will start to come up at some point.

I got my k5 up in second just by shifting my ass till it was touching the back of the cowl and hoisted it off the throttle.

I have mine up in first like G said I wasn't even trying to wheelie the front just came up when I was exiting a corner at a nice speed Wink

Must just be a mental thing for me then. I am probably not riding as hard as I think I am Confused. Only been riding street for about a month so the bike is a little sketchy with me haha. It's a completly different feeling than riding dirt.

Just clutch it up. Effective means of learning is to squeeze clutch in with hooked fingers, and twist throttle open gradually and release the clutch. Start small build up yada yada, and it'll make perfect sense when you realise how much you can whack throttle open. Technique works in second.
On certain bikes you can give the bars a GOOD SOLID yank at almost maxed out revs in second or third, and the front will rise up gracefully, then slowly return to earth as the power tails off Laughing looks good overtaking a line of cars... erm.

On my old Suzi RF600 all I used to do was tootle in 1st at between 10 - 15mph dip the clutch and bring the revs up to between 7-8 (I think??! Maybe a few more??) and kinda dump the clutch. It would come up pretty quick (Nice and smooth however) but I would balance it before winding the power on anymore.

Not sure if that is a good technique but it worked for me everytime and never posed a problem at all - that said I was naff at power wheelies, I found myself going to fast.

You can kinda hear what I do by watching my video on youtube.

Hi Mate,

Get a nice stretch of road and practice, practice, practice.

It also better if there is a big crowd as then u will push u self that extra few % and not look like a c*nt

When I first got the Blade, 120 mph plus, vertical wheelies did not come to me as naturally as I would have liked,
for some reason I couldn’t get the bitch on the balancing point probably.

After about 30 minutes of practice and nearly flipping the c*nt a few times I had it the b*tch sorted. Wink

Ace Biker Thumbs Up

Of course........ Wink

Shame I had the pleasure of meeting the "Potential inlaws" whilst in the back of the ambulence. Complete turn off.

Not to mention I would have bitch slapped the dad if it were not for the fact I was strapped into the ambulence bed.

But she was a complete lovely and my mate tried tapping her up before the ambulence arrived. Laughing
