I'm having a mid-life crisis.

After doing 2500 miles in two weeks on the 600, including 535 miles in two days hacking it around the Peak District, my inner child has decided that my 600 just isn't silly enough.

My friends are divided over this one; half of them have opted for the safety nazi stance and tell me that it's a mentalist bike for wannabe suicide jokeys and I should opt for a more sensible gixxer 750 or old-school 959RR FireBlade first; whilst my more energetic mates are already telling me about the joys of sixth-gear power wheelies and the financial advantages of not needing to buy another bike again.

I'm going to end up riding a litre-plus bike no matter what; so should I force myself to buy a bike I'm not really into just for safety's sake; or should I get the busa, treat it to a mental paint job and just gradually build up my confidence on it like I would any other bike?

And just for the record, I am capable of restraint; just because I'd have 190bhp attached to my right wrist doesn't mean I'd feel the need to have it wide open all the time.

I say go for it

Like everybody telling me I shouldn't get a litre bike because I haven't been pased my test long enough, the first off road bike I had a go of was a 620 and everybody was saying I was stupid, as long as you get the hang of it before you try opening it up!!

if you want a mentalist power bike, why not go for the 07 gsxr 1000?
it's not a fatty either, so you could make use of the power.

I say get a CG125!

Alot less on the tyre and chain wear.

Some people only get 1,000 per rear tyre on those Busa's. So consider how much your willing to pay on maintenance.

Do some research on it too Dance!

do it,

I seem to remember a thread on whether we need more than a 600cc bike, i answered no we don`t. But thats not the same as wanting more than 600cc Razz

If you can afford to run it, feed it tyres and petrol, do it and have fun!

And like you said, its all in your right hand, i suppose just don`t slot it into 2nd and ram the throttle on round corners lol

The 07 has that stupid switch that lets you switch between power modes.
The man doesn't want the option of reduced power, he wants all of the power in one huge lump powerful enough to blast the earth out of orbit.

..Have you thought about a Lifan?

Hi

Being serious, how much experience do you really have? Do you really want to jump rapidly onto something where a cack handed twist of the wrist can throw you off quite so easily?

All the best

Keith

Well that's the real question, Keith.

My daily ride consists of some of the most seriously demanding roads there is to offer, I'm sure. Empty roads is one thing; seriously congested, twisty roads with lots of traffic that requires utmost attention whilst filtering; You have to watch the throttle at all times else you'll stack it into an oncoming car, irrespective of power. 33 or 133 BHP, I feel it all depends on how well you can hold yourself back from pinning it. If I'm commanding 4,000 RPM on the 'busa then it really is only the same as commanding 9,000 RPM on the 600, which is where I'm at the moment.

I know I haven't been riding for long - less than four years - but in my heart of hearts I think that I have enough self-control to ride a supremely powerful bike without making a potentially fatal mistake.

Go get a Busa Mr. Green Mr. Green

I went from a ZZR600 to a Busa and yes a certain amount of self restraint at the begining is required. Once you get used to it though it is fantastic Mr. Green

I have been to the Apls on mine and I also commute to work, I will honestly say I have yet to find a downside to having a Busa. The ride is great the handling is good the power is unbelievable. What more could you ask for Wink

Tyre wear just depends on the way you ride as with all big bikes I have had 4000+ from a rear tyre, my latest however wont last that long....been playing you see Angelic

New litre bikes have more power and much better handling.

Alternatively, considered doing some trackdays or similar? I'm generally quicker on a lower powered bike when /really/ going for it.

Depends how your likely to ride it, I'd actually like one myself, but then I'd be right out and buying a luggage rack and bimbleing across Europe on it.. apparently they make a terrific touring bike.

If you find yourself getting speeding tickets or overdoing bends e.t.c. then it'd be a bad move..

I'd not bother with a paint job, i'd get some progressive springs, luggage stuff and other handy bits and bobs (sintered pads and wavey discs maybe, that sort of stuff) your not looking at it when your rideing it Wink

Do keeps us posted Thumbs Up

Go for it. I had nothing bigger than a 600 for years, convinced it was perfectly big and powerful enough. Then I realised I was getting sick of having to keep the bike in the right gear all the time to make progress (getting old and lazy you see).

Now, I dont think I'd go back to a 600, at least not as an only bike, and quite fancy a Busa or ZZR1400 in a couple of years. As you say, its all about throttle control and grunt - you can ride the busa at lower, more relaxing revs, and if you want to pass a car just twist the throttle, safe in the knowledge that the power is there in every gear. The very fact you're thinking about it so much suggests you have enough restraint for it.

Johnnygsxr is selling his - might be worth a look if its in your budget

I suppose I could get a '07 Blade; and as for the trackdays, I'm still searching for a proper bike for it. I didn't get the RGV250 in the end, so I'm looking for an RS250. I'd love an RG but I can't really afford the maintenance bill.

Still, a fair way to go yet, I'm going to see this summer out on my current bikes and have a think about it during the winter.

Thumbs Up

I went for 'no', but on reflection, I'm gonna go for a 'yes'! Laughing

Original thought was not about the power etc, as you say it all depends on how far you twist it, I was going along the line of working your way up in steps, so you just get more experience of other bikes - I wouldn't like to think I only ever rode two bikes - not very interesting.

But then again, its unlikely that this will be the last bike you will ever own, so yeah, go for it...as long as you can afford to run it! Thumbs Up

I voted yes simply as you should live your life how you want.

However I dont think its fait to compare a SS bike to a Busa, they are different bikes which will demand a different riding style.

Yes both are silly quick, but from what I have read you can tour on a busa with ease, I wouldnt fancy a cruise to the Med on an R1 for example. Same for pillions etc.

Thats for a standard. Most ones I've found on eBay and Autotrader have all been K and N'd, remapped and fitted with powercommanders.
