Getting into off roading.

Hi all,

I currently ride a CBR600F and I'm after a smaller bike to use as a runabout. I'd like to get a 125 road legal crosser so that when the weather's too naff for road riding I can jump on it and do a bit of green laning. I have about £700 to spend and I'm just wondering what that will buy me.

All oppinions appreciated,

Any reason for a 125?
I'd go for a 250 4 stroke if you can.

These will make similar peak power and do a similar speed to a 125 2stroke in decent nick, but will be less effort thanks to a much wider spread of torque.

The xr250 is popular and a good choice.

I do have a CRM125 that I got for £350 (another £150 spent or so, but got lots of spares not)/. It's still not running quite right, but regardless the road biased engine isn't going to be amazing off road, though with a bit more midrange it'll be acceptable at least.

I used to have a dr600 that cost £600. It's 15-20kg over the xr is noticeable, but it was still fine off road, though the wide range of torque meant you could pretty much just leave it in second.

I currently have a XR-250 for sale, and as G said they are very good to begin with, due to the power being in all the right places so very useable. Gimme a shout if your interested. Smile

Road legal 125's usually command a lot of money because of the learner legal thing too...
