Can i do lessons the same way i did my bike. A week of lessons then test at the end of the week?
Everyone i know has taken ages to get to test standard in the car & have never heard of doing the same as the bike course which tells me that the car is much much harder, is there a reason why you don't get these courses or why there not mentioned alot if at all?
Don't think i wanna spend months sitting in a car learning the basics when i passed my bike licence in under a week.

Lol, i need to have a roof. Much less hassle, i'm tired of un-chaining the bike, putting gear on etc.
Whosthedaddy, how much would one of these courses set me back then, & by the end will i be test level as i've only been in a car a few times & the size of the thing seems like it'd take much much longer to learn then on a bike?

Its about £20 per hour for a car, several hours a day for 4 to 5 days = a lot! Probably the same as DAS if not a little more.
Schools often offer a discount for block booking, not sure of this includes the test fees? ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Check out the AA website:
https://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/drivingschool/quote.jsp
Find your postal area and select a full week of lessons (36 hours), did one at random and came to £680. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Thanks for that mate, hopfully i'll be able to find something similar for a few hundred less, maybe.
Would you think a week is enough then, i fully understand the clutch & how everything works now which is what i struggled with a few years ago when i did 2 lessons.
Just getting used to turning the thing. |

Don't forget you only need to learn car-specific things, things such as observation and planning are things you should already be practicing at a high standard on bike |

Not sure to be honest, a week may be pushing it a little.
Handling a car is a lot harder than a bike.
I struggled with the clutch but had between 20-30 lessons before passing 3rd time some of those lessons were 2 hours long.
With the examiner sitting next to you the chances of getting away with small mistakes are less likely so the more lessons the better.
You already have road sense so its just the technical stuff, a week sounds do able ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Don't go with major schools they well rip you off and it is their goal in life to get as many lessons as possible even if you do not need them,
BSM try get you 6 hours in the simulator first WTF its pointless no experience is as good as road experience,
go with guys who come highly recommended, years ago lots of years ago I went with a guy called Steve, he was great , gave me 3 lessons and said I was ready, to do test (spent about £120 now) , I did 2 more and passed with him. He did have a terrible habit of chain smoking , stopping everywhere for coffee but when he stopped for 10 minutes for a coffee he added + 10 mins to the end I remember once I paid for a 2 hour session and there was a serious traffic accident and we were stuck lasted nigh 4 hours that lesson. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Ive been driving for around 4 years now. Obviously with mum next to me as Im only on a provisional. I did lessons for 3 weeks costing a bit, and TBH I got bored.
I might have to go for the week lessons with the test at the end. But its around 600-700 quid here. |

^ Yup, probably is better if i learned all the basics first then start some lessons. If i do go through with it i probably won't do any lessons with an instructor till i'm pretty good, don't really spend alot on lessons, so a couple would be fine which will probably be observation, hopfully. |

But but but I took lessons with a mate who had been driving for 'X' ammunt of yrs. I took the chance to learn with them for a while. Good driver ect. Then I started driving lessons with a proper person - so much difference.
Just dont go an think you have had 5 lessons with a mate and you are good. Not the case - to which I found out |

Hey
you sound pretty eager to get your driving lessons and test out the way quickly!
like people have mentioned, you could do a lot of hours in one week, but that may not cover it, i suppose its how fast you pick it up,
plus learning something new all at once in that space of time may make it more difficult, its a lot to take in
like Whosthedaddy said, you will already have the road sense and if you could find someway of practicing outside of your lessons then you would get it done quicker
im 17 and am currently learning to drive now, I will be taking my cbt soon and have just bought a bike
i think its a good thing to be qualified for both
whether its hard or not depends on the ability of the driver, some people pick it up quicker than others, if your used to being on a bike it will probably feel quite alien
because ive been learning to drive first it may mean i will struggle to handle a bike for a while
youve just got to go in with confidence and give it your best shot!
car tests are very strict nowadays and they take you through just about everything on the road that you could possibly ever know....joy!
its hard in the respect that the examiners are looking for perfection
i would love to get it all out the way, but at the same time im in no hurry because soon i will be on a bike so i can afford to take my time with a car and get the confidence and knowledge when its time to take my test
if you find someone who will do lessons over a lot of hours in a week, dont settle for a ridiculous price, they arent cheap unfortantly!
anyhow, hope you enjoy driving!
i do, but i can see myself enjoying being on a bike much more!!! |
