Hey all

I'm a South African in Reading. One of the first things I noticed when I started riding here, is how riders give each other a nod as they pass.

I have not ridden 'big' bikes back home, but have never noticed this over there. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why this is done and when it started? Or is it just something that has happened over the years...?

But wot I have to say is that I love it. Gives that feeling of 'brotherhood' (I say this despite the fear of seeming a little gay).

I was just wondering tho...

Good lads. Just wanted to get a few opinions to confirm my suspicions.

If it doesn't happen in SA at the moment, then I will definitely be trying to start it when I go back.

You're only gay if you play with other men's genitals...

would that be the nodding bit or the gay bit ????

Give him a break .... he is from South Africa and they dont do the nodding bit over there, so were better to ask about it than on a bike forum?

I know, and I did think to myself 'that could look a bit of a twattish reply'. But trust me, you only need to be on here regularly for a month or two till the exact same threads come round & round (nodding, fairweather bikers etc) and it does get a bit repetitive.

Dance!

I never get a nod from people wearing a open faced helmet, usually on there big pan europeans, so i never nod to them unless they nod first.

Is a horrlbe feeling when you dont get nodded back to, when they have blatently seen you.

Well not horrible. But you know. Rolling Eyes

The nod means a lot...to me it's just a way of letting him know everythings A ok. lol

Laughing *waves* Koooweee Jamie!

In Belgium, you stick two fingers out sideways in the peace sign orientation. Or if you pass a biker you stick your leg out.

I've had this happen a few times now, especially down rural 'A' and 'B' roads. Chaps doing the coo-ee! wave to me, very unnerving, I just nod and carry on. Whistle

I used to do the breakfast run from J'burg to Pret. on Sundays.
We always got a nod from the other bikers.
They have a cafe in Pretoria that is taken over by bikers from about 10am till closing.
I don't know why I had a bike. I used to spend more time in the pub when I was out with bikers. Embarassed
How do you like our damp existance here?

I think that a nod is sufficient. Cool and casual, but it says it all

Well like I said, I only rode a DT125 to school and back really. And same as here, the scooter patrols dont seem to qualify for nodding either.

So I never noticed it.

Yeah, I rode all thru winter. Only cos its too far to walk. But the cold and damp seems to make the warm weather all the more sweet! So looking forward to summer. Specially when I ride up to the IOM!!!!

A lot of scooter riders don't nod I've noticed, most of them round me are just people getting to school and back cause they aren't old enough or can't afford a car.

Isn't to say no scooter riders nod, cause I do see some that do, and then at the same time I see sports bikers that don't nod. Its just cool when you do get riders that nod, get some round here that do some crazy nods, theres one guy who pretty much bows Wink
