Hi. Context is: I decided to fix up my CX500, and found that rust had eaten into the footrest hangers and surrounding areas. As the welding work seemed to be substantial, I thought the easiest thing to do would be to pick up a second-hand frame. See where I am going..?
I have added some pictures of the 'replacement' frame. It was scrapped, and I have the tear-off bit of the V5C/3. However, closer inspection revealed that there was nothing under the painted-over riveted VIN plate at the rear (and should those rivets not be solid punched, not pop?), and the headstock number is on a brass plate, tacked/brazed on. My original frame, and others I have seen, have the frame number stamped into the headstock itself.
So, is this dodgy or what? I reckon so, and consigned it to the bottom of the garden for now. A check on the DVLA website reveals only that a vehicle of that registration is currently unlicensed. I should have been stricter at the time, I know. |

Probably some courier couldn't be arsed telling the DVLA he had got a new frame and just made it so the new frame had the original frame number on.
Heaven forfend I would suggest you did the same.
If it has been nicked, it'll have been years ago. What professional thief would steal a maggot these days? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
