About a year ago somone wheeled my CG125 from outside our flat in South London. I say wheeled as it's engine was living in our spare bedroom at the time.

I just got a call from the cops to report it has been recovered here:

Anyone in Lancaster interested in a one careful owner leaner legal bike? Laughing

I take it you're a long way from there? There are a couple fo Bcfers up that way I'm sure someone would go fetch it for you. Satansbighelper springs to mind and he used to have storage too. Might be worth a pm.

If the insurance paid you out for the bike when it was stolen, does that mean that you have to pay it back, now that the bike has been found again??

Not trying to put a dampner on it, was just curious

how strange that someone would want to steal a bike frame and take it to the other side of the country. I cant see a CG being worth that much!!

@ heth

It had been off the road for a couple of months so the insurance had expired.

@ Keir_K3

I assumed it was nicked for scrap - can't believe someone put an engine back in it!

@ queen of string
Yeah a long way, Google's journey planner say's about 5 hours but it would take one hell of a tail wind to get that thing back in that time, if I remember right the top speed was about 40mph.

I think it would be very painful to ride that bike that distance!

Maybe a recovery service or I'll see if the workshop it's being stored at are interested in buying it.

In that instance, the legal title of the bike would go to the insurers unless they decide they can;t be arsed with it. When the insurers pay out for an unrecovered vehicle, they effectively buy the bike, so they have first refusal when it's found.

I live a few miles south of lancaster, i could lob it in the back of my car and keep it in my garage for you if you need somewhere to store it.

Get it out of storage asap even if it is chained to a lampost outside the place.
Nephew got stung big time with storage. Thought it was £15 a week so left the bike 8 weeks. found it was PER DAY. Well stung.

so they stole it without an engine, then put an engine back in it and the police found it for you? sounds like a bonus hehe

@ Jack_Cheese

Thanks for the offer Jack but it's not as bad as I thought, cause the cops didn't have a phone number at the time for the garage where it's stored I looked up the number myself and got the wrong place, turns out it's only 30 miles or so away!

@ st3v3
The DVLA are fine, I registered a SORN for it.... they pester you like mad now whenever the tax is due to run out.

Thanks for the heads up about storage Skudd.

I spoke to the old bill again and here's what they said about what happened.

The guy who currently has the bike tried to register it (or update the details) via the DVLA. The frame serial number on the bike matches my V5 document although the numberplates on the bike are different from the record.

The DVLA presumably told this guy that the bike is currently registered as stolen and that it's not possible for him to update the details at them moment and they informed the police. He still has the bike. The cops have given me his phone number so we can work this out between ourselves.

I'm planning on phoning the guy during the week as I'm still trying to find the V5 although to be honest I don't know at the moment what the f**k I'm going to say to him.... any suggestions welcome Wink

One attack could be, is he prepared to pay you for the bike.
Do you really want it back now ?

You may find that if you go to collect it its back in the same state as it was stone in, ie minus engine....

It is yours, go claim it. If the engine stays in the frame, so what, if it doesn't have you still got the old engine? remember it is still in your name so you don't ahve to reregister it when you get it back just put the original plate back on. who is going to stop you?. come mot time just say you have a new engine. If that comes up stolen just take it out. You are quids in no matter what. If you do decide to sell the frame to the guy have a look at the bike first then get the bike at the best price you can as if you are selling a whole bike. The least he can do is just give you the bike back. or you are money up or a whole bike up. The least you get is a frame.
