Just bought a 1989 honda cbr 400rr (whatever that is) for 200 quid off a work mate. Doesnt seem to be in too bad nick for its age bar the front right handside fairing being fibreglassed. It has no tax or test and will deffinately need the fork seals doing before it goes for mot. Its done 19615kms so the clocks say, i have mots from about 1998 to confirm this.
Anyone got any tips for doing the fork seals??
Heres a few pics, bit crap as they were taken on my phone and in my shed. Laughing

Thats what i thought, been sat for over a year in a garage in london so its going to need some tlc to get it running reasonable.
The fork oil needs changing badly also, if its got any left in them. Laughing Think i might get the fairing fixed and sprayed and use it for a bit then sell it.
Its sure going to feel different riding this than my other bike. Laughing

Wow, you got a superb deal there. £200 for a NC23, minter.
I've spent months looking for a bike like that on e-Bay in my area Sad

Changed the oil and put some fuel in this evening and it fired up after turning over a few times. Got a slight misfire i think but nothing to worry about, couldnt run it for long since i had to go out but the engine sounds sweet as so far.
Next on the list is to renew the spark plugs and fork seals which should be arriving this week hopefully.
Looking over the bike i noticed that alot of the fuel hoses are perished and brittle so im going to buy a big roll of fuel hose and redo them all with jubilee clips as opposed to those stupid crimp things. Laughing

Cheers, when i went to look at it i was expecting it to be a vfr.
Bargains do come up, so keep looking.

Well the fork seals/bushes arrived today so this evening after i got in from work i decided to take the forks off so i could do the seals at work where i can get rid of the old oil. Only took about 20 mins to get the forks off even working in a stupidly small shed. Laughing
Got the front indicators working after lots of wd40 and cleaning of the bulb holder contacts. Mr. Green
All thats left after the seals is to clean the chain and road test then its off for mot and if it passes it'll be taxed asap. Razz
This is as it sits right now, precariously perched in my shed right next to my proper daily bike. Hope it dont fall over. Shocked

Wow you got an excellent deal there. Despite there being a few problems they appear to be inexpensive!

This is the sort of bike i'm after... but when they crop up on eBay they are always too far away to go and see or buy =[

Nice bike! May want to consider giving the carbs a good old clean if it's been sat for a while. May solve your misfiring problem too.

Well the forks are now fitted and ive managed to fix the electrical short i was having now and again from the main beam switch. Turned out the right hand side fairing panel was pinching the loom exposing a few wires which was causing the problem. Laughing
Had a check of the brakes and all seems good, took it down my drive and it stops and changes gear well. Im surprised to find that it idles smooth, i'll see today if it has any flat spots as its being insured and taken for mot at 3pm today. Fingers crossed it will pass Shifty Praying

Of course! Laughing I only bought this bike because it looked like a bargain. Mr. Green I will ride it about for a month or so then probably sell it, i have no real need for another bike and certainly not one this small.

It never went for the mot! Laughing I had to cancel it because something came up. Im riding it to work tomorrow and after i finish work its going to be mot'd. I reckon it should pass, ive looked at the bike mot manual and since i do car mots for a living i have a pretty good idea of whats needed to pass the bike mot. Wink
I'll post the results once im back. Laughing
Then i need to decide just wtf im doing with it. Confused
