I was on the Wolverhampton Rd towards J2 M5 island on Saturday and was keeping pretty much to the speed limit as its full of GATSO's. About a mile from the end a lorry driver started flashing his headlights as I went past so I thought maybe there was an accident over the brow of the hill then 3 car drivers did the same. I then knew what was coming up, over the brow of the hill stood 1 traffic car, tripod with a copper peering through it and three police bikes with ready to give chase. I tootled past smiling to myself and giving pleasent and happy thoughts to the fellow motorists I'd been past moments ago Thumbs Up

You might find they are bikers who happened to be using the car. If I need to be in the car for work I'll still warn oncoming bikers...
Then again, they may have just been helpful!

Very helpful, given that if a copper happens to see you do that, you can be prosecuted for obstruction of justice, or something along those lines.

I believe a truck driver was busted for that in the exact same circumstances last year.

theres a mobile speedcamera point between evesham and pershore on the B4084. If its there ill get loads of cars flashing me Thumbs Up . And then ill drive by warning people either flashing my beams or giving a hand signal to slow down.

He got off, because they couldn't prove that anyone changed their speed just because he flashed his lights at them.

Great PR coup for the police, cos now everyone who's heard that story is too scared to warn others of speed traps.

I've always wanted to buy a battered Transit and write in big letters all over it:

"MOBILE SPEED CAMERA'S AHEAD!"

Wherever I find a mobile camera van, police etc I'd park a few hundred yards further back to warn everyone...

Wonder if it'd be legal! Twisted Evil

You want another one parked 200 yds after the speed camera as well, where people can stop and make a donation to say thanks. You'd make a fortune

What a brilliant idea! 'Cept I'd buy a tip truck, leave the tip after the mobile camera for drivers to throw cash in and park before the mobile with a big sign... Laughing

Then just go and collect it at the end of the day!

Surely if you are warning people about speed cameras you are helping the Police by stopping them speeding?

Oh silly me, I forgot, 'safety cameras' = cash in fines Rolling Eyes

On saturday my friend and I were making a few videos on a nice bend on the way to Squires, and a guy in a car pulled over and asked if I was ok! Was quite surprised, just explained what was going on and he was on his way.

Another time last year I was going fairly quickly and a trucker flashed his lights and waved his arms to slow down. About 10 seconds later I saw cow shite all the way down the road, if I hadn't have slowed down I would probably be dead, no exaggeration.

I would obviously do the same for a cager if I thought they needed the help!

Pretty sure some old bloke did get done for warning others of speed cameras with a written sign.
Bizarrely, if I remember, he got 3 points, despite not being in a vehicle at the time.

That road is a nightmare for the number of Gatsos on it. When they were first put up a huge number people were caught speeding so I guess they all have a loathing of any additional speed traps on the road. :up

If there were 'bikes there for pulling people over, it was probably an ANPR check and not a speed check. Why waste resources when you can send a speeding ticket in the post?

ANPR checks are a good thing and should be encouraged.

For those that don't know, ANPR checks look for vehicles with no tax, insurance and/or MoT, unregistered and/or stolen vehicles and vehicles registered in the name of a banned driver.

They also stop you if they're bored because everyone driving past is legit, causing you to go through a load of hassle showing them your docs etc. Rolling Eyes
Personally, it doesn't particularly bother me if someone's on the road without having a specific bit of paper in a specific place regarding tax/mot, if the vehicle is fit for road use.

I agree about the ANPR checks, and the more uninsured and unlicensed drivers they catch the better. However they regularly have speeding traps like this on the A217 near Banstead/Reigate in Surrey which feature lines of police bikes. They even have a portable Police Station to process everyone in!

Sometimes I get warned of traps by other drivers and it's something I ALWAYS make a point of doing for others if I pass a speed trap. If more people did it then maybe the police would be less likely to run these traps. If I get a ticket for doing it then so be it.... all I was doing was warning people of a potential hazard.

I've also noticed that 2-3 weeks after they have had the static, tube on the road speed/traffic density measuring devices in place you will very often get a speed trap...

Tell that to a friend of mine who was hit by an uninsured, untaxed and barely roadworthy car, and spent six weeks in hospital and had his new, insured third party only because he was young and couldn't afford the telephone number comprehensive premium, 'bike written off.

As far as I'm concerned, using the roads is a privledge, not a right, and if you haven't earnt it then you can take the bus.

Oh, and the scrote who knocked my mate off was fined £50.

Remember we have to pay for (some of) the damage these criminals cause through increased premiums.

I'm more concerned that some twat in a daft wig gave him a £50 fine, instead of a prison rules arse raping.

the other day a "friend" of mine was over taking a couple of car on a main road (4 lanes wide ) and got flashed by a car going the other way so he slowed down a little and saw 3 police men in the distance unlucky for the police there was a turn off before he got to them. So he took the turn and got off (apparently he could see the police man waving his arms, could have been at another car though)

I was overtaking traffic at a fair speed in a 40 zone the other day and on the other side of the central reservation was bike copper going the other way, he could blatantly see i was doing something like double the speed limit, he nodded at me and waved at me to slow down which I obviously did thinking he was going to turn round and pull me over.

Looked in my mirrors he just carried on about his business and about half a mile down the road was a copper with a speed gun, biker copper warned me about a speed gun, how good is that Thumbs Up

A biker is a biker it seems.

Did the person stop and agree to pay for any damage caused?

I've seen plenty of cases where people with insurance have caused an accident, then claimed it wasn't there fault and either caused a massive amount of hassle or got away with it.

Most of the money insurance pays for, after the profits of course, is accidents caused by the insured.

The bits of paper I was considering were tax and mot - neither really 'mean' much. MOT definitely doesn't mean road worthy and tax means neither insured nor MOT'd.
