Woooah under a week and i'll be embarking on my trip round the continent, and i'm getting butterflies lol

I haven't undertaken something like this before and doing it solo is a bit nerveracking, the most i've ridden in a day is 160 miles, and tho i wont be doing more than that in one day when i'm away its still daunting.

Anyway, anyone stayed in brussels, luxenbourg and switzerland and is it worth visiting them places?

Also whats the petrol station situation, are they frequent?

Cheers

Dean

Don't worry, don't think. Just pass away the time between now and then as quickly and easily as possible.

Once you're out there on the road touring, the only thing you'll have to worry about when you wake up in the morning is where you're heading next.

You'll probably find 160miles a day too little to keep you occupied. If you're planning to do a lot of sightseeing then maybe you'll be okay, but otherwise you should be looking for at least 250miles as a good days riding even on slow and twisty road conditions. 400miles is what I'd call a long day.

Enjoy your trip!

A friend and I toured Europe last year. Was the best thing I ever did. We did quite long days to get to places but was well worth it for the scenery and the adventure we had. We picked up loads of funny stories along the way, which we still talk about now. We did Holland, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Germany and back to Amsterdam in 10 days. Looking to do America either next year or 2009 Thumbs Up Thumbs Up all the best for your trip mate.

Good luck. You will be fine. Petrol is easy but you may want to get off the motorways for it if you are on a budget.

Pretty much the same as here really.

Definitely pay a visit to Brussells, it is a fantastic place.
The main square is a great place to have a drink on a summer evening.
If you get stuck in traffic around the train station (and you will if you go that way), make sure to keep an eye on your panniers and top box; taxi drivers always make sure the boot is locked because people will run into the traffic and steal from it otherwise.
See if you can find the Manneken Pis.

Enjoy, I expect to see pictures Very Happy

cheers guys, i feel better about it; I think just the reality set in for a minute lol

I've got a few options for campsites for the first areas i'm going to and the bike is all prepped for saturday. I'm starting to get excited Very Happy

oh 1 thing someone might be able to help with, i will prob be arriving at Brussels about 6ish, do most campsites let you in that late? I see on some the reception closes at 5 so i kinda assumed then I wouldn't be able to pitch up after 5.

Cheers

if you phone the campsite and let them know, they might make accommodation for you

Brussells' is cool, arriving late at a campsite I doubt will be a problem. Chances are worst case you might have to pay next morning. Most of the time I've arrived at campsites past 8 without issue.

You'll probably find yourself doing more than 160 miles a day, once you're in the mindset they pass quickly.
