Just would like to know a little about them.

Basically i have roughly £2000 to spend, and was wondering what they're like to own, run, are they reliable. What things i should look out for when purchasing.

Did a few qoutes today and i got back £449 fully comp, 21 year old living in Bolton 2 years ncb.

So i want one Very Happy

Do you need to commute?

I know your still young so dont spoil your bike experience with getting a 1200 so soon. Get a 250 stroker. (ignore the above if you need to commute out of Bolton.

If you go from a CBR125 to a B1200 then I guarantee your next purchase will be a pocket rocket.

Its no different really than going from a cbr 125 to a GSXR 600, the Gixxer 6 is probably quicker than a bandit 12.

Had a test ride of a bandit 12, and it feels fine, obviously the weight of it compared to my cbr 125 is a bit of a culture shock, but other than that its nice.

It didnt today, it just felt a little heavy, it just seems really torquey. Plus the Bandit 12's seem alot better built than the 6's. Dont really want a sports bike. So that rules 400's out.

And im 12 stone Razz

Just to go offtopic, when you out for a beer?

Why would he be any more likely to end up in a wheelchair than a 45-year-old who buys something like a busa? Confused
At least he has experience.

I consider myself a sensible rider, but like most have a side where i like a good blast.

As ive said, having test rode the 1200 today, it didnt feel too daunting, yes obviously the step up from 13 bhp to the bandit 12 is rather large, but other than the weight, and the fact that the front end lifts quite easiley when you give it some, it felt good.

Dont want a sports bike. Want something comfy, powerful and reliable.

That's still no need to buy the 1200. If you're commuting on it you'll be throwing a lot of money away by using it. It will use more petrol, chains and sprockets and tyres, cost more to tax and insure, and it won't be as easy because it's so heavy. It seems like overkill to me; you were content to use the CBR for ages, why make such a huge step? It's not exactly logical. If you want a comfy bike which isn't a sports bike there are plenty of other options, like the Bandit 6 for one. As well as GPZ500s, Hornets, or a sports tourer like the ZZR600 or Thundercat.

That said, none of those are as suited to commuting as a CBR125. So if you like it and think you can handle it, with maintenance costs and the power, give it a whirl.

Marc daft question but aren't you still on a 33bhp restriction?

Something like a bandit 12 would not handle restriction well!

And just text me whenever! Could go hard rock cafe on monday?

True, well ive decided to go for the Bandit 6, seen an alright one for £1800 near me a K1 with 9,700 miles on it so going looking at that.

Basically i want a none too sporty bike for £2000/

Buy the 1200, i had one 3 months after i had passed my test (bandit 600 initially) and the only reason i sold it was because it doesnt really handle in a fun way. Good engines though, you`ll be fine mate, common sense and all that.

Oh and an aftermarket can released 14bhp from the engine (proven with before and after dyno runs) which is ridiculous.

Just keep it clean, because they rust like nothing i have seen.

Have you considered the Yamaha XJR1200/1300 does everything you ask of it and fills the above criteria and more

If you are doing commuting on it, get the Bandit 6, there is no point getting the 12. Rolling Eyes

Running cost wise there's little difference between a 12 and 6 - similar mpg as you end up thrashing the 6 more, not much in it Insurance wise, cheaper to service a 12 as the plugs for a 6 cost 2-3 times as much as a 12 etc.

just buy what you want fella, if your sensibile youll be ok, im sure you know that it will cost more to run then your cbr125.

ive just gone form a cb500 to an sv1000 the difference is unbelivable, ob ivously the cb wins on commuting, but since my commute is 5 miles a day, i arnt realy bothered my bike may be my only transport but the sv adds the fun factor and the only things that will cost me noticably more are tyres and chains.

id happily advise you to go for it

Well im gonna either get the 6 or the 12, looking to spend no more than £2000, so gonna see which i can get a better deal with.

What am i looking for with bandits, other than the obvious.

Any particular known problems?

And will £2000 get me a good nick 6 or 12?

Insurance between the 6 and 12 for me is not much different

Bandit 12 £449 Fully Comp
£219 TPFT

Bandit 6 £ 414 Fully Comp
£ 190 TPFT

Where as a sports 6 id be looking at £679 tpft.

Update:

Hopefully going looking at this one tonight after work

Say hello to Mark, he's selling my Seat Leon for me... Thats where I got my '99 hornet from. I think he's a touch pricey, but a decent bloke.
