hey all,

just purchased a yamaha zeal 250 and was wondering about compliance. The bike was advertised as a '93 model. After buying it, I looked more closely at the rego paper and it said that the compliance date of the bike is 1998. The plate on the bike frame says 1998 also. If the bike really is 1993 but complianced 1998, does this mean that it's been sitting around for 5 years doing nothing and the km's started in 1998, or is this the year that the bike was brought into Australia? OR is the bike in fact a 1998 model?

Cheerio

to draw a comparison with the UK (which is where the majority of us on BCF live)...

the bike might be a '93 model, but the registration date (compliance date) doesn't need to be the same. as you say, it could be because it was an import, which hit your shores in '98, or it could have been sitting in a crate for 5 years.

Over here, the registration document will state if it was "new at first registration" or not. If you have a similar comment, then it should maybe shed some light.
