CB500 is another of Hondas competitors for most underrated bike on the planet.
They are solid, reliable, are good up to the neighbourhood of 110, cilit-bang* off of the lights and inspire more personal confidence than having your bed full of strippers.
Not to mention most parts, with the exception of the radiator, are cheap and relatively easy to get hold of. I had a lot of fun and did a lot of serious riding on Dukans CB500. If I had to replace the GB and someone gave me a fistful of cash with which to do it I'd be shopping for a CB500S.
Besides unlike certain manufacturers I could mention, you can leave a Honda out in the rain...
* Bang! and the bike is gone. ____________________ Kal...

I have owned a GS500, suzukies poor brother of the CB500, and now have a Badit 600N.
I would advise you to go for the bandit, as said it will do everything that much better, and if you really ride it you will keep up with most bikes in everything other than a plain out and out drag race.
The Bandit is far heavier than the CB500, which is a consideration,
On the flipside the CB500 is a very capable machine and if you are just commuting and generally learning might be a more sensible option.
I think the parts point is slightly moot as Bandits and CB's are easy to source parts for. Bandits have two discs up front so double up the cost at brake pad change time, but they will also run on BT-45 Crossply's very nicely (prolly the best tires for a CB500).
Either way you wont go far wrong with either choice... Both will prolly leave you wanting an upgrade after a year... But both are equally capable of bringing a smile to your face |

I was considering a Bandit or a CB500 a few months back before I passed my DAS. Quite a few people suggested I go for the Hornet 600 instead. Part of the reason they suggested that over the other two is that I would get bored of them pretty quickly. I was told not to get the Bandit, as everyone would tell me I have an arse Bandit!
I'm 110% happy I went for the Hornet, now. It's got a nice amount of power, and a good step up from the ER-5's I was learning on. |

I'd go for a Hornet. I have a bandit but the hornet just seems to be erm more fun? bit more power?
Having said that, my crash rescued bandit has never failed me and I've done a few track days on it. I'm not bored of it after 3 years of ownership and I probably won't ever get rid of it until it dies. As a 26 year old with poor wrists, it's comfortable and pretty nippy.
As far as getting bored, they do have a lot to offer, should be good for a few years, if you ride it properly!
I'd still get a hornet over a bandit . . . . ____________________ NC30 + Bandit 6

Bandit 600N every time.
Although if your considering a Hornet too, then the Hornet wins hands down.
Which reminds me
