Right , other than buy a new clutch on my TLR is there anything else I can do ? It is slipping , it works better when the engine is cold , and at hight revs it feels like the back wheels is spinning ( obviously its not its just that the clutch isn't dis engaging )

I really don't want to spend £40 for new clutch plates at the moment.

? Any ideas ?

Ps, its done it since I have had the bike but seems to be getting worse and worse.

ill give it an oil change and see if its any better, would taking out and swapping round the clutch plates get a bit more life out of them ?

take a trip over to tlzone you can find all the advice you need about your TL Thumbs Up

when i got my tls the guys on there poineted me in the right direction pm me for the addy dont want to spam or do a google search

dont remember if the TL1000 is a hydraulic or cable clutch...

presuming that the cable etc is correctly adjusted, the next cheapest thing to change is the clutch springs.

On my FJ1200, I changed the spring, and that sorted it out.

It aint a suzuki. It's a 200cc honda trials bike he's on about.

Make sure your clutch cable is properly adjusted.

If you're going to strip the clutch, you should be able to measure the thickness of the friction plates using a vernier and compare it to the tolerances in the manual. If they're still thick enough, deglaze them by giving them a rub over with emery paper and try again. Check the tags on the plates and the edges of the basket for any notches and smooth out with a file or replace as necessary.

Oil change won't do much over-all, take the casing off and have look how much is on them, and no, you can't simply swap them round, they maybe different sizes for instance.

In some cases roughing up the metal plates can help, I've also heard of people bodging it by adding another single friction plate in; but in most cases this will probably just lock it.

If you continue to use it while it's slipping it will most probably excessively wear the metal plates as well, so best to get it sorted properly now so you don't have to spend even more in the future.
