I'm hopefully doing my test this summer (yay) so I'm half looking for a 33bhp bike now. I've seen some people on this forum saying that they are gettin 500s and 600s when they pass their test.

Are they doing DAS? Or can you restrict big bikes to 33bhp? I'd quite like to get a restricted 400, possibly a bandit or CB, but does it cost more to restrict a bike?

And I'm assuming insurance will be more on a bigger bike, even if its restricted to the same power?!

Cheers Thumbs Up

Insurance is the same yes.

It's about 200 ish for a kit from FI international. Google it.

It'll tell you what bikes they do it for and how much. Thumbs Up

ahh i see

so will i not pay more on insurance for a 600 than i would a 400?

bikes that I'm looking at are the CB400 superfour, suzuki bandit, honda cb hornets, yamaha xjr 400 etc. basically most of the naked 400s.

I know a friend of mine who just got a restriction kit put on his 600 bandit for a total of about £150.

matey, if you can get hold of a bandit 400, ive got some restrictors i could throw your way......all you'd need to do is get a dynograph ( see https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=113189).

could save you a bit of cash.....

thanks alot buddy Thumbs Up

im not going to be getting a new bike until end of july time so don't worry if you "throw" them to anyone else

thanks alot though Smile

what's your experience (if any) of restricted bikes? what works/what doesnt? and what costs the most/least?

is a dyno all the paper work you need? cos I understand that you pay most of the money just for the paperwork to say that you're restricted. after all its only a few washers Confused

Of course you will, because they're (generally) faster and more powerful.
Not because it's restricted further.

No, the insurance companies don't care about restriction.
You won't lower the cost of your policy by restricting your bike.

No, i meant the insurance will be the same on a 400 as if it was unrestricted and the insurance would be the same for a 600 as if it was unrestricted.

This is because the restricted 600 costs the same as a full pwoer 600 if it gets stolen etc.

right, yeah that makes sense.

I'll definitely not be looking at 600s then as my insurance quote for a 400 is already going through the roof as I dont have a years NCB yet Crying or Very sad

400s are rare and can generally cost the same as, if not more than more popular 600s.
And don't worry about restriction it really is not an issue as has been pointed out several times before.

Only two people have special dispensation for animated Avatars. One is Demonic69, and the other is Kickstart. This is mainly because they are small in size and are almost not noticeable.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

right, thanks alot guys. its amazing how much you can learn if you ask the right people Thumbs Up
ill wait until ive got my practical test booked then start ringing around for insurance quotes on a bigger bike.

nice to hear that insurance on a ZXR400 was so cheap, wouldn't mind one of those myself Laughing

last minute thought - I'm going to struggle beacuse I payed my insurance for the whole year at the start of the policy and I'm only about 4 months in to it. doh! anyway around it? If not I'll just hav to settle for changing my bike on my current policy and pay whatever extra bennetts want from me
