CB500 Ghost Neutral

I've had my CB500 for just over a month now and it hasn't missed a beat, am dead chuffed with it as a first proper bike...

however a couple of times when changing up 3rd to 4th or maybe 4th to 5th I've hit a ghost neutral, it only ever happens when I change softly, if I think hard about every change and make sure i really push the lever up there are no problems, when it does do it though it makes a hell of a nasty graunching noise before dropping into gear... is this a sign of deeper problems or do i just need to be more careful and ensure i change up properly each time?

as an aside the clutch cable snapped the other day and i rode it to the nearest garage clutchless, up and down through the gears once only without the clutch ~ down through the gears once without the clutch shouldn't have caused any problems should it?

its a sign of your dog selectors wearing.dont be so gentle get them gears in. the old cb's are notorious for false neutrals.a proper adjusted clutch mite help aswell.

Adjust the clutch cable and drive chain and just try changing gear as
you let off the throttle.
You should feel it go all the way into gear at the lever.If you don't then
keep the clutch in and give it a little rev then try it again as the revs drop.
I think you just need to get use to it.
