Hi, I've been lurking recently then decided to post because I discovered I'm pregnant. Is this the right section Confused

I was wondering if any of the other girls on here have the same dilema. How long into the pregnancy would you ride for (or ride pillion since the new daddy loves his bike).

What about rally's ? Has anyone got experiences of going to rallys with young children ? The one's I've been to haven't exactly been "child friendly", but maybe that was just the company I was keeping Laughing

im no expert, but i would imagine it wouldnt do any damage until its uncomfortable to bend over that much, unless the vibrations made the kid slip out, then you might get into a bit of bother if you didnt get pillion passengers on your insurance Very Happy

Hi daytona, first of all, congratulations! Very Happy

I've spoken to women who continued to ride during pregnancy and only stopped when the baby got big and it got uncomfortable/difficult. From what I've heard/read, it just seems to be down to whether you feel safe going for a ride with a baby on board.

In fact, there was a thread about this on another forum I use, and there are pages of people's experiences and advice etc.

Hope this helps!

Since the daughters were born she wont come on at all. Confused Thumbs Down

Some rallies are child-friendly, some are most definitely not. Best to check with the organisers, or if it's something you've been to before use your own judgement.

My personal opinion is that rallies are not a place for kids, at the very least until they are old enough to be togged up properly and go on the back of a bike. Get a babysitter or stay at home!

Can't advise you re the pregnancy/riding thing as my lad was born way before my riding days really started properly.

Congradulations there.

Not pregnant but thought about what i would do if i was. Alot prob would disagree with me especially my family if i continued riding but i think you could maybe until 5 months or so as long as your careful and depending what kind sitting position you have on the bike.

Hmm, difficult one I think. You just need to assess the risk yourself, and do what you feel happy with.

I would say that doctors advise against certain 'activities', such as horse riding and contact sports, both because of the risk of falling and also damaging ligaments (which are more vunerable when you're preggers). Linky from NHS direct here

So if I got pregnant again (HIGHLY UNLIKELY!!! Laughing ) I personally wouldn't feel comfortable riding, or being pillion, at any stage of the pregnancy. Saying that, I did drive myself to hospital for the births of both my kids! But I did give up football though.

Regarding rallies, each will be different as others have said. My mates have taken their 1 year old to a couple of rallies so far with no problems, but won't be taking him along to others, like Farmyard for example. Obviously bike-only rallies restrict kiddy-transport-ability!

Oh, and congrats & good luck, btw! Thumbs Up Very Happy

Hey,

Congratulations Very Happy

I have been in a similar situation but not with bikes, with skydiving.

My advise would be . . . . you'r aware of risks, but it is completely down to you and how you feel about the situation.

I skydived until I was 5.5 months pregnant and then the only things that stopped me was . .
I could no longer do the zip on my jump suit up
Could not get my lead belt on

I think my boy did over 100 jumps in there Smile

I know someone people disapproved behind my back . . things like, my wife had a miss carridge and Jo is still jumping. Bah! Stuff em, do what your happy with.

BTW - I was lucky had no sickness at all - just tiredness, you might find you feel to sick to ride anyway.

If I had another, I would ride my bike, but would think that the leaning forward position would stop you fairly soon and beside, your leathers won't fit for long Wink

Good luck

Probably would advise against it if you ride a big single or V-Twin, they have alot of vibration and it will most likely come out cross eyed as a result.

Congrats! As said above its your choice, just assess the risks and do what you think you will be comfortable with. Thumbs Up

Congrats Very Happy

I have spoken to my other half about this, not that we are planning on having a baby in the near future, but probably will one day. I already have two from my previous marriage, which was before my biking days. However, as i said to my OH one of the (many) reasons i dont want a baby in the near future is that i would hate to give up riding for 9 months, but that is what i would do. For the simple fact that, no matter how careful i am i cannot guarantee that i wont have an accident on the bike, and even if it was someone elses fault i couldnt forgive myself as i have a car and no need to ride for 9 months. And to be honest, i'd bloody hate giving it up for that long... alcohol, cigarettes and my bike Confused, but its the choice i'd make, right or wrong.

This is just my opinion though, and everyone is entitled to their own. Chances are nothing would happen anyway, but its a risk and you have to decide wether its worth it.

I believe my mum rode a bike to the hospital where I was to be born by cesarean - and this was in Botswana!

Isn't it too much riding that caused you to get pregnant in the first place?

When will you ever learn Rolling Eyes
