A HACK!

So, to replace my beloved CBR, I have decided to double my motorcycle ownership with a hack and a hooner.

So, first things first, in order to afford to purchase said hooner, I need to get to work - this is where the hack is needed.

Requirements:
Arrow Preferably less than £500 and cheap to insure (don't forget I'm going to be losing my 6 years no claims bonus thanks to the theives)
Arrow Must be suitable for a shortarse, so think less than 500cc and small
Arrow I need to be able to ride in an assertive manner - so nothing really pathetic like a 4 stroke 125
Arrow Must be utterly repulsive to the eyes to deter theft Laughing

Ta.

edit:- Where's the best place to buy matt black paint, and can I have some tips for techniques to make the finish really shit?

I might be wrong but I don't think you lose all your NCB from one claim, thought I read somewhere they take 2-3 years off.

A GPZ sounds like it suits the bill, but maybe a bit too tall?

If you could find one cheap enough I'd be buying an XJ600 for a hack after riding Mike's, stupidly light so easy to flick through traffic, not much poke after 80 but it's not too slow either. Not sure on height though, you'd have to try and get a sit on one. Oh and it wheelies!

How about a CB1? Might be tricky to find for £500 though.

A tip to make the paint shit, a brush or roller rather than spray, and dont mask anything off, just cover the lot!

You know what you need...

The MZ ETZ 250/251/301. All the cool people are riding them... Very Happy

Seriously though, they satisfy all the conditions you've stated, parts are incredibly cheap (brand new cooler exhaust - £34.99), and i find them incredibly fun to ride, i spend most of my time laughing into my helmet.

The indicators flash faster as you rev the engine... Shocked

Top speed isnt great, a flat out 90, but its fun getting there.

Zen Dog

P.S. My mates got a divvy he wants rid of if you're interested, does need some work on the head though i think.

An ETZ would be a good choice actually, I like the look of them...

They seem quite rare though Confused (well, biketrader just broke as I was searching!)

There's a bloke selling a 92 GPX250R Kawasaki for £375 with a personalised plate, sadly it's in the north of Northern Ireland.

Kinda beat up looking, but the guy claims it's a good runner. No tax or mot.

Hi

GPZ500. Cheap and low. And good on petrol for commuting.

Load on Ebay, starting this cheap:-

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/kawasaki-gpz-500-s-zx500-no-reserve-gpz-500-L-K-gpz_W0QQitemZ250109245870QQihZ015QQcategoryZ10464QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And we probably have the bits to fix it floating around.

All the best

Keith

I agree with Shaun, there was an L reg Divvy at my local dealers for £800, a private, ugly one would be doable for under £500.

Divvy is not that short. Anna is not that tall. Having owned one I suspect she would struggle a bit on the height (she tried my FZR600 yesterday and found that way too high).

All the best

Yup, the GPZ500s is a great wee bike. Cheap to run 50+mpg, very comfy, even two up.

Not the most advanced suspension in the world, but still a lot of fun to be had on it, very nimble and light so can be thrown about easily.

Blimey. The XJ is a nice bike but if a GPZ is too big no way.

Strangely, out of 3 ETZ's on Ebay, one doesnt have an engine, and the other 2 are both in South Wales. If you fancy the Aberdare one, i can probably have a look at the condition for you, its only a couple of miles from me.

I wouldn't go looking for specific models, get your local yellow ads paper the day it comes out and call all the cheap ones that seem semi-reasonable; similar do a search on ebay for bikes a certain distance away under a certain price.
