A friend of mine has just passed his test, and has gone out and bought a brand new . . . . . . . . .

Rocket III

He has ridden bikes briefly whilst on holiday, namely a 22bhp Enfield Bullet Rolling Eyes and he is not without common sense.

What tips can you give me for keeping him safe because i feel its my responsibility to help him to stay safe riding that beast. I think he is generally a poser, and probably more interested in how he looks whilst riding it to be honest lol

Tell him not to buy a full face lid and only buy Triumph leathers, you must accessorise. Rocket riders' most alert sense is 'fashion' after all.

He'll probably ride it dead slow so everyone can look at him.

It's powerful but it's also heavy. Be cack handed with the throttle on it and it'll probably just shoot forwards, unlike a sports bike that'll either wheelie or tie itself in knots then spit you off.

It wouldn't be a bike i'd reccomend to anyone - but thats because i think they're a bit a shit. But, the world would be a boring place if we all like the same stuff etc etc.

I think it all depends on what sort of a person your mate is - if he can't control his right hand, then there's a good possibility he'll ride like a cock and probably crash. But, this would be the same for pretty much any bike he decided to buy.
IMHO the best advice for anyone getting a bigger, more powerful bike than they are previously used to, is to be patient, take it easy and don't try to go too fast, too soon.

The fact he's willing to ride an Enfield tells me he doesn't give a flying fuck what you think Smile

And that's what quite a few people now dead have probably said when others have commented they shouldn't get a powerful bike for their first one.

In this case though, I wouldn't worry too much if he's got a bit of common sense. I suspect unlike something like a modern CBR1000 they won't be nearly as cosseting as far as the handling goes; so trying to go fast will probably actually take some effort and feel fast, rather than feel easy and like the bike can do a lot more.

It is a bit daft but I suppose the bike is only as powerfull as you make it. Just because it has X-bhp doesnt mean you have to use all of it. The throttle works both ways.

How did he get insurance? Shocked

I thought that it didn't have an insurance group as such just one of those 'refer to head office' things.
