Riding with no CBT

Hello all,

A friend of mine has told me that i can ride my bike with no CBT aslong as i have someone on that back who has passed there test and has been riding for more that 5 years. Is this true?

lol thats funny, riding with no cbt, the idea of a cbt is to train someone to the basic requirements, also how old is this mate if he's 16+ tell him to do his own cbt and ride his own bike

Do your CBT, even if you know how to ride you will learn a lot about riding on the roads. I have driven a car for over 10 years now but still learned alot when I did my cbt a couple of weeks ago.

After talking to my dad you used to be able to do that.

My dad used to ride his Lambretta 250 with his mate on the back.

They were pulled over loads but it WAS legal.

but not anymore.

Not any more. You need a CBT

CBT is only a fairly recent concept, brought in as a result of too many people getting on their first bike and disappearing under a lorry before they'd done half a mile. Came out in about 1990 I think. Before then you could ride on L plates with no training, if you were looking for a particularly gruesome way to commit suicide.

A guy that I work with rides without doing his CBT and also without L plates sometimes, it dont seem to matter how much I tell him to do it he does't see the point

I think the only was you could do it or can do is if you passed your car test BEFORE 1st Feb 2001 and you could get a 50cc moped without L-Plates and ride it without the need for a CBT. (Bless the ol' "grandad" licence as my examiner called it.)

I just went for the CBT anyway as I wanted a 125 or bigger and went for the DAS anyway.
