This is a bit of a random question, mainly brought on by availability - I have a tube of I Can't Believe It's Not Copaslip, but no standard motoring grease.

What's the difference between the two in terms of usability - I'm aware it's recommended for threads and the back of brake pads, but are there areas where one can use grease but shouldn't use Copaslip? Bearings? Axles etc?

Ok on axles because nothing should be spinning on the axle.

A big no-no on bearings. For high speed bearings (eg wheel bearings) you want a high temperature, lithium based grease (usually clear or white).

For high load, low speed bearings/bushes, (eg, swingarm/headstock) you want a molybdenum based grease (usually black).

coppaslip shouldnt be used on bearings, as it acts like a grinding paste.

Its used where two static surfaces meet and you dont want them to corrode and seize together. Examples being nuts, bolts, fastners etc etc. Also good for electrical contacts.

Steel bolts into alloy don't mix. Copaslip is great for that if you ever want to get them out again.

Steel to steel I use grease.

Sooo.... dumb question, but I've found, and I quote: "lithium moly" grease.
It's grey - this mean I can use it on everything? Very Happy

Probably. It should say on the tub. But in general LM grease for high speed bearings is good.

You can use it on the slow speed, high load bearings too, just the thick, black moly grease is more appropriate. Just a wee bit more resistant to shearing forces. Graphite grease is good for this too but you never see it these days.
