... between a BA and a BA(Hons)?
I may be going back to Univeristy (3rd time lucky! ), to get my degree in Business Management. The prospectus says that in 4 years I get my BA, and in 5 years I can get my BA(Hons). Here's a link:
https://northumbria.ac.uk/?view=CourseDetail&code=DUPBMN1
All I am after is a degree as it'll open more doors career doors for me. So is a BA a degree? Is there any point in getting the Hons bit? Now that I'm in my 30's I'm probably going to rely more on real world skills than book smarts, but may need the degree to get me to interviews. Would a BA suffice?
Ta for your help. |

I see, so basically it is a degree but having a BA means that you are slightly stupider / lazier than someone with (hons) at the end of it.
5 years seems such a long time!
Thaks for the help! |

It's only £750 a year so I've got no problem paying for it (I wouldn't get funding anyway for a part time course - the best I get is get some hardship cash, which I will ) |

What you need to remember is that final 'honours' year is usually spent studying a focused part of the degree subject and you would usually produce a dissertation during that year.
So, an honours year can be usefull because you can gain some specialist knowledge targeted towards the aspect of that field you want to work in.
For example you can do a degree in chemistry and study for honours in say plastics or colour chemistry or analytical chemistry depending on your interests and what you intend to do after uni. Or you could do Business studies with honours in export markets or hotel management or something. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Aye, but it's 5 years of only 6 hours a week (plus self study admittedly)
I'd sooner spend the extra 2 years doing it than give up my current job. I get paid double what our graduate intakes get and though it would be a faster way to get the qualification, there's no way I could go back to that sort of pay level now - I would miss rolling in cash every night!
I'm only going for the qualification because if I am to go onto the senior management positions then it is practically a requirement that you have a degree in business. |
